None of the stitches are difficult, but can: take some practice to get perfect. Always keep your stitches and the space between them the same length. Be consistent with your sewing tension. Carefully place the hair front onto the face as shown and adjust the face so that it’s centered correctly and pin in place. Attach the hair to the face with appliqué stitches worked with two strands of yellow floss. Pin the top hair in place on the head. Using the matching sewing thread and needle, appliqué stitch around the edges, leaving a gap open. Lightly pad the hair with a little toy stuffing, using a toothpick to help you to get padding even. Using the picture as a guide place the green ribbon (the ribbon length may vary a bit, | depending on how you stuff the doll) and the butterfly on the head. With two strands of } dark green thread sew a line of back stitches down the center of the butterfly wings. Use the : same floss to embroider the antennae. You will have to be precise and be sure to cover every mark whei¥ stitching. The pencil is not easy to remove, You can practice the motive a few times on a paper before working on adoll. ‘Thread an embroidery needle with two strands of brown embroidery floss and sew the eyes and lashes onto the face piece. Thread an enc lery needle with two strands of white floss and sew the pieces together with a overcast stitch, Position the green dress shapes on the light yellow dress shapes, as pictured, and pin them in place. I have included a template of the complete body (see page 17). You can use this template as a guide to get the positioning of the green and pink shapes just right. Sew the shapes together using running stitch and two strands of green floss. : Thread an embroidery needle with two strands of pink floss and embroider two crosses ! (made from two straight stitches) on the dress front, Embroider French knots on the end of each straight stitch, Pin the wings in the center of the bedy back. With white thread sew a line of running stitches down the center of the wings. Pin or glue the legs and the arms in place on the wrong side of the body back. Align the two body shapes together and thread an embroidery needle with two strands of floss. Carefully place the hai frontonto the face as shown and adjust the face so that it’s centered correctly and pin in place. Attach the hair to the face with appliqué stitches worked with two strands of brown floss, Pin the top hair in place on the head. Thread an embroidery needle with two! strands of brown embroidery floss and sew the two head pieces together with a overcast stitch, Stop stitching when opening is small enough for stuffing. Fill it with toy stuffing and stitch it closed. Knot thread and cut off excess. Leg shape — Finish herve teat Cucrcast stitch ‘ot Staxt fcte 5” Fold the arms and legs shapes in half. Thread an embroidery needle with one strand of + floss (using floss that matches the color of the felt) and. blanket stitch around the edges {using small stitches, leaving the top open. Make thé'same with the two arms and the > two legs. * Use pliers ‘or an old scissors (don't use good scissors to! cut wire, it vill rain thers) to: ! cut 3 or 4 pipe cleaners: two or three 11.7” and one or two 5.5” long, Blend a small loop : } on each end of the short pipe cleaner to form hands (use round-nose pliers or your fingers). Fold the long pipe cleaners in half, Using the picture as a guide, push the limbs onto | * the pipe cleaners. 9 Align the two body shapes together and thread anembroidery needle with two strands of green embroidery floss. Stitch the pieces together around the edges of the body using overcast stitch, sewing through all four layers of felt in the arms and legs areas, leaving a Position the head so that it overlaps the body. Using large needle arid two strands of dark green embroidery floss, sew along the pencil lines using back stitch. Then, carefully, tear away the paper to remove it, using a pin to remove any little pieces of paper. Fold the jerkin shape in half and sew it using overcast stitch and two strands of green floss, starting atthe hem and up to each armhole. Put the jerkin to the doll * Place the hatbands on the front and baek hat shapes, being careful to align the hatband : on the back hat shape with the hathand on the hat front shape. Use two strands of light yellow floss to sew each hatband to the hat'with appliqué stitch along the top and bottom ‘edges of the band. i Using the picture as a guide, place the feather on the hat front. Using violet embroidery } thread back stitch a line on the ¢eniter of the feather. } Align the two hat pieces'and overcast stitch together using two strands of green floss. } Leave the bottom of the hat open so it will fit over the head. ! Fold the boots shapes in half. Thread an embroidery needle with one strand of green floss and blanket stitch around the edges using small stitches, leaving the top open. Add ! a pinch of stuffing, . _ Insert the legs in the shoes.
