MID-TERM LESSONS

LESSON 5 (FUNDAMENTAL MOVEMENTS IN BASKETBALL)

 THE JUMPS
To jump is a natural movement skill but to jump with proficiency needs practice and perseverance.
Jumping is an especially important skill in a sport with an elevated goal.

1. Two-Feet Jumps
This is a slower take-off for jumping and is best used when players are in high-traffic situations.

2. One-Foot Jumps
when movement and maximum height are required, jumping from one foot is beneficial.

3. Quick Jumps
to make the best compromise between conserving time and space and maintaining body position and
control, quick jumps are done.

LESSON 6 (BALLHANDLING)

 PASSING
passing is a moving a ball from one player to another to the same team.
- A ball may be passed with one hand or two hands. It may be thrown above intercepting opponent, or it
may be bounced.

Passing Principles
1. QUICKNESS – the ball must be passed quickly, the past should be snappy and crisp, but not too hard or
too easy.
2. A TARGET - each pass must be accurately thrown to a specific target (usually away from the defender)
3. TIMING – the ball must be delivered when the receiver is open and not be away from the defender.
4. TRICKERY – the passer must use deception to confuse the defender, who is reading the passer
(especially the eyes) and anticipating the pass.

Types of Passes
1. Chest past

2. Bounce Pass
3. Baseball Pass

4. Overhead Pass

5. Push Pass

 DRIBBLING
- it is the continuous bouncing of the ball.

Types of Dribbling
1. LOW DRIBBLE
The ball bounced knee-high and shielded by the players free hand and body.

2. HIGH DRIBBLE
A player in the clear can move faster while bouncing the ball waist or shoulder height.

LESSON 7 (SHOOTING)
- In shooting that can be practiced alone and produces immediate feedback for the team.
- A field goal is basket scored from the field and worth two or three points depending upon the distance
where the ball is shot by a person at play.

1. SHOTS - The ultimate purpose of every move in the game is to get a player into a good scoring
position. The accuracy of a shot at the basket depends on balance and speed of execution.
2. JUMP SHOT - This is the most common shot because the tremendous (very great) opportunities it
provides particularly for 3point shots. One hand is used to hold the ball in place. And the other to
shoot it toward the basket, the ball released at the top of jump.

3. LAY-UP
After charging past opponents, the player jumps close to the basket and lays the ball in. the players wrist
remains stiff while the hand pushes the ball in from underneath.

4. DUNK - the player dunks or jams the ball into the basket with one or both hands, thus, preventing
any opponent from stopping it. This is the most spectacular shot.
5. SHOOTING LAY-UPS - this is be done while jumping from the left leg when shooting right-handed
lay-ups and vice versa when shooting left-handed lay-ups, stamping on the last step to minimize
the forward long jump will propel the shooter higher.

6.FREE THROW SHOOTING - to improve free throw shooting skill, players should constantly
practice it, set up plans for players to practice free throw shooting in off-season.

LESSON 8 (REBOUNDING)
- rebounding is the skill used to regain control of the ball.
- Rebounding is gaining possession of the ball after an unsuccessful gaining points or lose of points.
- The keys to have effective rebounding are positioning of players aggressiveness, and timing of the
jump.
