Assalamu`alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

Assalamualaikum wbt and good day!

In the name of Almighty Allah, Most Gracious and Most Merciful, I would like to welcome and
express my utmost gratitude to everyone for been able to participate in the 1st International
Conference on UMMAH 20I8: Civilisation, Language, and Sustainability (ICU) held in Grand Riverview
Hotel, Kota Bharu from 31ST October -1st November 2018. I would like to take this opportunity to
thank Prof Dato’ Dr. Hussaini Bin Omar, the Vice Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK)
for his willingness to officiate this conference. I also would like to thank all the invited speakers,
participants, and the organizing committee who has contributed directly or indirectly in making the
conference a great success.

The conference aims to provide a scientifically and critically sophisticated medium on the
development of civilization and all its components in local and international context. This can be
done through the partnership between researchers, industry players and representatives of public
universities in carrying out the nation’s civilization agenda. The conference also intends to explore
the methods and approaches in implementing the agenda of Ummah in civilization, language and
sustainability introduced by the Centre for Language Studies and Generic Development (PBI), UMK.

Besides, this conference also intends to look for possible aspect for the implementation of the
nation’s civilization agenda as well as to build a repository of challenges to be addressed. The
conference also aims to provide the space for sharing of views and practical ideas in the effort of
developing the nation’s civilization with the focus on the issues of humanity, language, and
civilization of Malaysia. Thus, I would like to invite all the participants to be actively involved in the
conference, providing the directions and thoughts in enhancing the transformation of a strong
society towards building the unity of the Ummah. The conference would not be possible without the
excellent papers contributed by participants. I hope that this ICU will be the platform and further
stimulate research in civilization, language and sustainability, and provide researchers with better
techniques, procedures, and tools for deployment. The next ICU will be held in 2020.

Last but not least, on behalf of the organizing committee, I would like to welcome our international
participants, and hope that you will have a good time exploring Malaysia and Kelantan.
