WHAT IS THE SOGIE BILL?

• THE SOGIE (SEXUAL ORIENTATION AND GENDER IDENTITY AND EXPRESSION) BILL IS A SERIES OF BILLS IN
THE PHILIPPINES THAT AIM TO PREVENT DISCRIMINATION AGAINST INDIVIDUALS BASED ON THEIR

CONGRESS AND HAS BEEN REFILED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE THEN. THE BILL SEEKS TO PROTECT THE
RIGHTS OF THE LGBTQIA+ COMMUNITY AND ENSURE EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES AND TREATMENT FOR ALL
INDIVIDUALS, REGARDLESS OF THEIR SEXUAL ORIENTATION OR GENDER IDENTITY.

MAY FACE HIGHER RATES OF MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES DUE TO STIGMA, DISCRIMINATION, AND LACK OF
ACCEPTANCE. GENDER STEREOTYPES AND EXPECTATIONS CAN IMPACT MENTAL HEALTH, LEADING TO FEELINGS OF
INADEQUACY AND ANXIETY. GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE, SUCH AS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT, CAN
HAVE SEVERE PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSEQUENCES. ACCESS TO MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES MAY BE HINDERED BY
GENDER DISPARITIES. CONSIDERING THE INTERSECTIONALITY OF GENDER WITH OTHER ASPECTS OF IDENTITY IS
IMPORTANT. PROMOTING GENDER EQUALITY, CHALLENGING STEREOTYPES, PROVIDING INCLUSIVE MENTAL

ALL.
