Exercise 1
Models of tabular models of geological layers, characterized by different thicknesses and
velocities, are presented in (Fig 1).
1- Identify among these models the one favorable to the creation phenomena of refraction.
2- Draw the refracted seismic waves path rays of each model
3- Establish formulas giving the travel time of all refracted waves as time offset and model
parameters functions.

We consider the two models (A and B) presented in (Figure 2). 1) Demonstrate that both of
them give the same time recieval function (the time as a function of the offset). 2) What will
be the apparent depth of the second interface if we consider that its velocity V3=1050 ft/s, is
close to its V1 veloclty. What would your conclusion be?
