Procedure for Installation of Cross Beams in Bridges with

Steel Formwork System
i. Preparation:
 Review design documents: Ensure thorough understanding of cross beam specifications,
location, and connection details.
 Inspect steel formwork system: Verify its integrity, cleanliness, and proper alignment.
 Gather necessary equipment and materials: This includes lifting equipment (crane, hoist),
temporary bracing, and tools.
 After finishing the pier stem the next step will be the frame
 Chipping the surface of the top pier stem
 Field tests (sand cone , PLT ) for determine the compaction ration not less than 95% &
determine the bearing capacity not less than 3KG/cm2
 Start installing for the scaffolding (blocks, base plate, cross head, standards , pipes ,etc.)
 Starting RFT by fixing the steel chairs for bottom & top steel
 Finishing the RFT of frame by fixing the pedestal steel of elastomeric bearings

METHOD STATEMENT

Frame (Cross beam) Date:

ii. Lifting and Positioning:

 Attach slings securely to designated lifting points on the cross beam. Use slings of appropriate
capacity and ensure proper balance.
 Lift the cross beam using the appropriate equipment. Maintain control and avoid sudden
movements.
 Guide the cross beam into its designated position within the steel formwork system. Use
positioning guides or temporary supports for precise placement.
iii. Alignment and Connection:
 Verify the cross beam's alignment with the surrounding formwork and bridge structure. Use
measuring instruments and adjust as necessary.
 Connect the cross beam to the formwork and adjacent beams. Utilize pre-drilled holes and
approved fasteners according to the design specifications.
 Tighten all connections to the required torque values. Use calibrated torque wrenches to ensure
proper tension and securement.
iv. Temporary Bracing and Inspection:
 Install temporary bracing to stabilize the cross beam and prevent movement during concrete
placement.
 Inspect all connections and ensure they are secure and meet the specified requirements.
 Re-check the alignment and adjust any discrepancies before proceeding with concrete pouring.
v. Concrete Placement and Curing:
 Place concrete around the cross beam, ensuring proper consolidation to eliminate voids and air
pockets.
 Follow designated curing procedures to allow the concrete to gain sufficient strength before
removing the formwork and temporary supports.
vi. Removal of Formwork and Temporary Bracing:
 Once the concrete has reached the required strength, carefully remove the formwork panels.
 Remove temporary bracing in a controlled manner, ensuring the stability of the bridge
structure.
vii. Finishing and Inspection:
 Inspect the exposed concrete surfaces for any defects and perform necessary finishing work.
 Conduct a final inspection of all connections and components to ensure adherence to design
specifications and safety standards.

9. QUALITY ASSURANCE AND QUALITY CONTROL

 Quality assurance measures must be taken into consideration during execution in compliance with the
quality requirements of the contract and according to the technical specifications and approved ITP.
 All works requiring inspection and testing to demonstrate conformity with requirements will be
undertaken in accordance with relevant inspection and test plan.
