CLEARMAX™ Wellbore Cleaning Services

MAX-Blade™ Tool

Weatherford’s MAX-Blade tool belongs to the CLEARMAX suite of wellbore cleaning

tools and is a casing scraper that removes scale and other debris from the casing, in
preparation for packer-setting and completion-running operations.

The tool scraper blocks are arranged on the tool to ensure 360° scraping coverage
and incorporate flow channels to minimize any pressure drop across the tool. The
through-rotational design of the tool enables the scraping action to take place as pipe
is run in the hole (RIH).

The MAX-Blade tool can be RIH in a purpose-built wellbore cleaning string or as

part of a drilling or workover string. The scraper blocks remove scale and other
debris from the casing as the pipe is RIH. The scraping action is unaffected by
rotation of the drill string. The operator can choose to reciprocate the tool across an
area of specific interest, such as a packer setting zone. With the MAX-Blade tool,
simultaneous operations are achievable in a single-string assembly (such as drilling
out cement followed by cleaning the casing), thus eliminating extra trips and reducing

Rotational Sleeve
operational costs.

Applications
• Casing and tubing cleaning operations

• Scraping while drilling

Features, Advantages and Benefits

• Through-rotational design enables scraping to occur simultaneously with
operations that require high rates of rotation, such as drilling out a cement shoe,
eliminating the need to trip out of the hole before rotation commences.

• 360° scraping coverage ensures that all parts of the inner casing wall are scraped,
cleaning the whole casing string in one trip.

• Ample flow area around the scraper blocks, enabling fluid and debris to flow
easily around the tool, prevents high equivalent circulation densities and possible
damage to the productive zone caused by backpressure on the formation.
