My presentation is about my favourite sport: Swimming.

Swimming is an individual or team sport that consists of moving through the

water. It is practised in a swimming pool.

We find different types of swimming pools: one has got 25 metres long and the

other has got 50 metres long. The second type of swimming pool is the one

used in competitions.

What do we need for swimming?

- Obviously, we need a swimsuit.

- But we also need a swim cap. It can be made of latex or silicone.

- And goggles to keep the water and the chlorine out of our eyes.

What type of styles can we swim? There are four styles:

- Butterfly. It is the most difficult style of these four.

- Backstroke. In this style, your face is out of the water.

- Breaststroke. It is the most relaxing style.

- Freestyle. It is the fastest style.

History of swimming

- Swimming as a sport began at the beginning of the 19th century in Great

Britain, with the National Swimming Society of London in 1837.

- The sport became part of the Olympic Games in Athens in 1896 for men and in

1912 in Stockholm for women.

- The rules for this sport are made by the FINA, the International Swimming

Federation. It was created in the 1908 and there are 209 national federations in

the present.

Important competitions

- Every four years, we have Olympic Games in a different city. There are 35

swimming events. The country with more medals is the United States.

- Every two years, we have the World Aquatic Competitions. There are 42

swimming events.

- Every two years, we also have the European Swimming Championships.

Famous swimmers

- Michael Phelps. He is an American swimmer. He was the youngest swimmer in

the Olympic Games with only 15 years old. He has won 28 gold and silver

medals in these games, from Athens 2004 to Rio 2016. He is considered the

best swimmer of all the times.

- Mireia Belmonte. She is a Spanish swimmer. She has participated in three

Olympic Games. She first went to this event when she was 17. She has won

several gold medals in European Championships and World Championships.

She has also won medals in the Olympic Games of London and Rio.
