planned to be constructed in India. The MAHSR Project line connects Mumbai, located in Maharashtra State
with Ahmedabad in Gujarat State, passing through one Union Territory, Dadra and Nagar Haveli (refer Figure
1). The entire stretch is divided into 8 packages from C1 to C8.
The Package C4 of High-Speed Rail Project is awarded to L&T Construction. This package consists of Design
and Construction of Viaduct and Bridges, Tunnels, Earth Structures, Building works for four stations namely,
Vapi, Billimora, Surat and Bharuch and other structures viz SMD, & Ramp, etc. The scope of workfor this
package starts from Ch. 156.6 km at Zaroli village at Maharastra -Gujrat Border to Ch. 393.7 km which ends
near Vadadora. The MAHSR Project line covers length of 237.100 km in this package. The alignment of the
MAHSR C4 package is shown in Figure 2.
2. SCOPE
The Scope of work of this Method Statement covers Survey Setting Out for Foundations, Piers and Pier Caps
from the established control points as per “Method Statement of Establishing the Horizontal and Vertical
Control System and Topographic Survey” & “Method Statement for HSR Benchmark Establishment Plan”.
Reference points shall be protected during construction and should be handed over all the points back to the
Engineer after completion of work, as per requirement. The purpose of this document is to prepare a system for
execution and control on the survey activities which is to be performed sequentially to achieve the specified
product. This Procedure is applicable for setting out of survey for foundations, Piers, Pier Caps and other sub-

8.4.1 General
• Survey data shall be read out from approved drawings, specifications, or other documents
approved by the Employer / the Engineer OR their representative.
• The Surveyor shall keep his drawings updated and well organized. He obliges to completely
understand the contents given by the drawings.
• Dimensions and measurements given on drawings shall be checked by the Surveyor, and if
there is some indistinctness, it shall be clarified before the Surveyor uses the drawings for
survey works.
• The Chief Surveyor shall be responsible for the correctness of survey reference data.
stations, GNSS Benchmarks and control points, pegs, profiles, rails, marks, etc., are protected.
The markings shall be regularly inspected for damage or dislocation. The markings shall be
re‐set out if found displaced. The Surveyor should keep his instrument data‐memory updated,
and after the day’s work these should be downloaded and printed out. These files should be
used for the survey works. The printout should correspond to the survey documentation under.
It should be ensured by Chief surveyor that all surveying and setting out records are identifiable
and rectified if required and kept at the site office. All records should clearly identify the works
that has been carried out.
Survey Documentation:
Record sheet should be prepared by the surveyor for all his work. Record sheets should carry
the following information as applicable:
Work description.
Date of survey work.
Name of surveyor responsible.
Instrument used.
Referenced drawing number.
Referenced survey stations.
Instrument memory files print out (Day survey work).
These field documents should be available for the reference of client representative.
Setting Out
The Surveyor shall be obliged to learn and completely understand the functions of his
instrument and the software accompanied with the instrument.
8.5 Procedure for Establishment of straight section of alignment using NSCP pillar (until TSBM
establishment):
Part A – Construction of control pillar
1. Stacking of the designed TS & ST points on ground by RTK method with fixing the base on
nearest NSCP pillar.
2. Stacking out of the control pillar near the proposed construction location at every 250 m approx. on
the ground by RTK method with fixing the base on nearest NSCP pillar. The control points shall be
on the straight alignment in between TS & ST.
3. Casting the centerline pillar of “TS”, “ST” and the “control point near the proposed construction
location on stack out location:, with steel plate centrally fixed on the top surface of the pillar.
Part B – Establishment of grid coordinates on control pillars
1. Repeat the point 1 & 2 of Part A and temporarily mark the point on the steel plates on all pillars.
2. Place the DGPS on temporary marked point and observe the coordinates by static survey method.
3. All the observed coordinates of TS, ST and control points shall be marked in the AutoCAD
drawing. Straight line shall be drawn on between TS and ST. The position of control points shall
be observed w.r.t. the straight line marked between TS and ST. If any control point is deviated
beyond +/-3mm from the straight line, then the same shall be noted and corrected at site
accordingly.
4. The static survey (steps 1, 2 and 3 of Part B) shall be repeated till all the control points fall with +/-
3mm of straight line.
Part C – Establishment of Total Station / Ground Control Points
1. Since bearing of line in between TS and ST is fixed by above method, therefore ground coordinate
should be generated by total station by measuring distance and correcting it (if required) by scaling
(grid to ground).
2. Cross verification of bearing should be done by static survey.
3. Setting out of foundation, pier and pier cap shall be done accordingly by these ground coordinates.
The above method shall be complied only till the establishment of TSBM.

Procedure of setting Out of Foundation Layout for Excavation using NSCP pillar (until TSBM establishment):
Project Alignment
References Lines (Ref-01- Ref-03 along the alignment; and Ref.-02 – Ref.-04 across the alignment)
shall be established defined by the Ref. points on the ground as in sketch above at a distance not
less than 2 m. from the edge of excavation / structure.
Each of these References Line shall be extended further by setting Extension points on each of
these lines, at least 10 m. from the reference points above.
The co-ordinates of these Reference points and Extension points shall be preserved so as to re-
establish them from the nearest control points, in the event of any damage to them.
The centre lines from these pair of Reference-Extension points shall be used to give the Centreline
of the structure in both directions for setting out the works on ground and raising the structure.
8.6 Procedure of Setting Out of Center Line on Top of PCC using NSCP pillar (until TSBM
establishment):
After excavation completed, and a safe access provided as per the Construction work procedure for
foundation, marking for center line (X,Y) on top of PCC for foundation shall be done from the
Ground Control Points established as per 8.5 above.
The foundation center should be marked in form of butterfly shape on top of PCC with red colour
paint.
8.7 Procedure of setting out of Foundation Centerline using NSCP pillar (until TSBM
establishment):
After pier foundation cast, marking for Foundation centerline (X,Y) on top of concrete should be
done from the Ground Control Points established as per 8.5 above. The foundation center should
be marked in form of butterfly shape on top of foundation concrete with yellow colour paint. This
marking should also be used as reference for the starter / kicker of pier.
8.8 Procedure of setting out of Pier Centerline using NSCP pillar (until TSBM establishment):
After pier cap concrete completed, and a safe access provided to the top of pier cap as per the
Construction work procedure for pier & pier cap, marking for center line (X,Y) on top of pier cap
should be done similar to procedure mentioned above (from the Ground Control Points established
as per 8.5 above). The pier center should be marked in form of butterfly shape on top with red
colour paint.
8.9 Procedure of setting Out of Bearing Pedestal Centerline on Pier Cap using NSCP pillar (until
TSBM establishment):
After pier cap concrete completed, and a safe access provided to the top of pier cap as per the
Construction work procedure for pier & pier cap, marking for center line (X,Y) for bearing
pedestals on top of pier cap should be done similar to procedure mentioned above (from the Ground
Control Points established as per 8.5 above). The pedestal center should be marked in form of
butterfly shape on top with red colour paint.
8.10 Procedure of setting Out of Alignment, Foundation, Pier, Pier Cap, Bearing Pedestal using
TSBM pillars (post TSBM establishment)
Once the TSBM pillars are established, the same (along with other established Bench Marks / Check
Points) will be used to setting out of the structures. Min 3 nos of established benchmarks (in the near
vicinity of the structure), will be used for any setting out activity.
