2. Choose a theory from the nursing theorist applicable to your study. Attached in week 8 is
the sample nursing theory book in a PDF file for your reference. It is highly recommended
to look for a local nursing theory book such as TFN by Udan or TFN by Octaviano for
Filipino nursing theorists available for your reference.
3. Use the Harvard style and do not forget to cite the authors when applying a cross reference
literature and alternate the use of explicit and implicit cross-references when doing your
related literature.
4. Take note to use the appropriate format to use when having multiple authors.
5. Look at your variables, look for 5 journals for each variable, and make sure to use Zotero
to organize your related literature.
Impact of Self-
Efficacy
Medication
Calculation
Accuracy and
Autonomy
6. Discuss each variable in your study and include it in your literature review. Look for at
least 5 literature for each variable. Please see the sample below.
2.1 Literature Review
2.1.1 Self-Efficacy
Self-efficacy as referring to self-perceptions or beliefs of capability to learn or perform tasks at
designated levels by Bandura (1997). The other authors have attempted to define self-efficacy,
but they all paraphrase to refer to Bandura's definition. McCombs (2001) cites Bandura (1991),
explaining self-efficacy judgments in reference to the learner's judgment of his or her competency
for successful task completion. Schunk (2001) acknowledged that self-efficacy is a construct in
Bandura's theory of human functioning and defined it as — beliefs about one's capabilities to
learn or perform behaviors at designated levels. Quote another of Bandura's (1986) definitions
that self-efficacy refers to —people's judgments of their capabilities to organize and execute
courses of action required to attain designated types of performances (Pintrich & Schunk, 1996).
According to Huang and Shanmao (1996) self-efficacy expectations as — the beliefs about one's
ability to perform a given task or behavior successfully.
2.1.2 Medication Calculation
According to Rainboth and DeMasi (2006) and Wright (2007) Effective mathematical skills are
vital for medication calculations. In order for student nurses to develop accurate safe
administration of medications, strategies aimed at improving dosage calculations need to be
implemented (Wright, 2007). ( Sung et al., 2008) acknowledge The ability to calculate and
understand the administration of medications underpins the safe practice for RNs. The RN must
not only understand all aspects of medication administration they must, more specifically ensure
correct medication calculations and dosage for the safety of patients (Andrew et al., 2009).
(Kapborg and Rosander, 2001) Stated that Mathematical skills are imperative for nurses in
calculating medication dosages, liquid solutions, and strengths, as well as intake and output
computations.
