I. Executive Summary

Overview
Bocaue is a first class urban municipality in the province of Bulacan in
the Philippines. Bukawe (its original name) was derived from Bukawe
trees from the bamboo family, where along the creeks of this province
and around its territorial boundaries lie so many trees of this kind.
Bocaue is composed of 19 barangays, whose major sources of income are
manufacturing, cottage industries, farming, fishing, trading and other
commercial businesses. Eversince, Bocaue is also noted for the
manufacturing of fabulous pyrotechnic products/firecrackers and still
famous up to now.

Objectives
 To promote understanding of different cultures
 To improve quality of life for the local population
 To provide community facilties, as well as tourist facilties
 To develop a sense of pride in traditional culture and identity.

II. Destination Assessment

Location Analysis
Bocaue is 27 kilometers (17 mi) north-east of Manila if reached via the
MacArthur Highway and is 18 kilometers (11 mi) from Malolos City. It is
at the mid-southwestern portion of Bulacan. Its land area is 3,187
hectares or 31.87 km² (12.31 sq mi). The town is bounded on the north by
the municipality of Balagtas and a portion of the municipality of Santa
Maria; by the municipalities of Marilao and Obando on the south; a
larger portion of Santa Maria on the east; a portion of the municipality of
Bulakan on the extreme southwestern side; and a portion of Balagtas on
the western side.

Cultural and Natural Assets


St. Martin of Tours Church
This is known as the Diocesan Shrine of the Holy Cross of Wawa. At 400
years, it is one of the oldest churches in Bulacan, having been founded in
1606 by Franciscan missionaries. St. Martin of Tours is hailed to be the
home of the Mahal na Poong Krus sa Wawa, which, for the devotees, is a
miraculous cross. This cross is the center of the festivity of Bocaue’s
Pagoda Festival.

Shrine of St. Andrew Kim Taegon


This church offers the uniqueness of being inspired by Korean
architectural designs. This serene location is the best place to pray and
meditate. The shrine was established to honor St. Andrew Kim Taegon,
the first Korean Catholic priest who chose our Brgy. Lolomboy for his
studies prior to his service as a missionary.

Philippine Arena
Philippine Arena is one of the world’s largest indoor arenas, capable of
seating 50,000 fans in a fully enclosed building. The arena has hosted a
range of sporting, music and church events.

Bulacan is well-known for the following industries: Marble and


Marbleized Limestone, Jewelry, Pyrotechnics, Leather, Aquaculture,
Meat and Meat Products, Garments, Furniture, High-Value Crops, and
Sweets and Native Delicacies, and a wide variety of high-quality native
products.
