Scope
This Method Statement (MS) highlights the work procedure for general plumbing installation and its
maintenance and or repair work.

Health & Safety Hazards


Before commencing any work, the team shall strictly follow as per the Manufacturer’s/ Client’s / Consultant’s
Health & Safety recommendations for handling and use of the materials and ensure all involved personnel shall
be aware of the same.

The general safety guidelines are given below:

1. Ensure the work area is safe & clean.


2. All employees shall adopt safe working practices.
3. Safety equipment (Safety helmet, safety shoes, coveralls, gloves, goggles, face mask as applicable) to be
worn at all times.
4. When working at a high level, the appropriate safety harness shall be used and secured whilst working-
extra care shall be taken whilst using tools at a high level to prevent dropping.
5. Ensure sufficient lighting is available during all stages of installation & testing.
6. Report all accidents no matter how small to the HSE Engineer/Officer on duty.
7. Ensure any electrical isolation permit is obtained if required, for installation any electrical equipment,
panel, cable, wires and accessories.

Responsibilities
Project Manager
• Project Manager shall be responsible for overall project execution.
• He will coordinate with the client and head office.
• He is responsible for progress monitoring, attending review meeting and resource management.
• Overall, he will be responsible for the timely completion of the project following all contractual
requirements.

Health and Safety Provisions


• All the safe practices will be adopted during this work.
• All necessary personal protective equipment & respiratory protection must be used.
• Proper access for the labour and equipment shall be provided for the works.
• All machinery shall be checked for maintenance records.
• The site shall be cleaned from all debris, steel waste, nails, etc.
• Toolbox talks to be conducted before commencement of works.
• Close supervision on safety requirement shall be provided.
• All necessary barriers, signage lighting etc., to be provided and maintained.

Preparation
 Report to the Worksite/Project Office and inform the project engineer/manager of arrival, collect Permit
to Work (PTW) where needed.
 Attend any orientation/induction as needed by the main contractor or facility manager.

 Always comply with personal protective equipment.


 Shift/Take required tools, machinery and equipment to the site work area.
 To maintain health and safety, always cordon off the work area if needed to do so.
 Make sure that the area to be worked on and the exit points are tidy & free of obstruction and that safe
access and egress is properly available.
 Examine or inspect any electrical, hand tools or equipment for any damage or faults, faulty or damaged
ones must be removed from service ASAP.
 Do not leave any tools, machinery, vehicle and equipment unattended at any time.
 Make sure the work area is left safe at end of each shift.

Maintenance/Repair Work
 Communicate with other contractors, outsources third parties and Facilities Manager (FM) to isolate
water supplies.
 Make Isolation of Hot & cold-water pipes where required.
 Drain down the water system where required.
 While chasing out the walls; firstly, use the cable/pipe detector to check the physical location of
installation in walls & underground for any electric cables or pipework.
 Make a proper marking the wall for the area to be checked out.
 If the installation is on the plasterboard walls carefully; cut out using a cutter.
 On plaster walls chase out using a hand bolster.
 If mandatory, remove any skirting boards by driving the bolster chisel behind the board and carefully
levering it away from the wall.
 If required, to take up any floorboards these should first be inspected with the cable/pipe detector to
ensure the area below the board is clear.
 Set the circular saw to 18-20 mm depth and along the length of the board on both sides through the
Tennon on some floors it may be mandatory to reset the saw to a depth of 20-22mm and take a second
cut.
 With the bolster chisel lever up the board, remove all nails.
 When taking up the carpet and lifting floorboards attention will be given to the trip hazard generated,
do not leave open floorboards and upturned carpets any longer than is necessary, essential warning
signs must be installed where there is a risk of other contractors entering the project site.
 Make a replacement of parts.
 Make sure waste pipes and other plastic pipework are connected correctly.
 Where plastic pipe is connected with solvents, employees/staff will adopt all safe use instructions.
 Where solder work has to be done, prepare pipework for solder joints.
 Get the appropriate hot work permit from the Facilities Manager (FM).
 Make sure the correct type of Fire Extinguisher (FE) is on hand during hot work.
 Always protect the surrounding area with heat shields.
 Make sure proper ventilation for solder work.
 Connect and solder all mandatory joints.

 Check all joints.


 Communicate with the Facilities Manager (FM) to turn water supplies back on.
 Conduct further examination for water tightness and quality of finish.
 Chlorinate the system if needed and check for successful completion.
 Request Facilities Manager (FM) to inspect works.
 Issue completion certificate and chlorination to the Facilities Manager (FM).
 Pack tools and equipment and make proper housekeeping.
 Maintain fire watch for 2-4 hours where hot work has been conducted.
 Report to the site office and sign off a permit to work after the task completion.
