LEARNING TASK 1: GROUP ACTIVITY

“Multiplying Bacteria”
 The teacher will group the students in 6 groups
 The learning activity and instruction will be projected through smart TV and through piece of
paper
Materials: manila paper, marker, masking tape
Directions: Perform completely the tasks below. Write your answers on a manila paper.

Bacteria multiply rapidly. Each bacterial cell divides into two, and then each these cells
divided again into two, and so on. If we start with one cell and after 1 hour it has
divided into two, complete the table below to show the growth of bacteria culture. Let
h be the time in hours and N be the number of cells in the bacteria culture.

(Groups 1 and 2)
Task: Complete the table

(Groups 3 and 4)
Task: Give the set of ordered pairs. Plot the set of ordered pairs in a Cartesian Plane.

(Groups 5 and 6)
Task: Formulate an equation that describes the growth of bacteria culture.

LEARNING TASK 2: GROUP ACTIVITY

“YOUR WAY TO THE CAMP”
(using the same groupings)
Materials: manila paper, marker, masking tape
Directions: Perform completely the task below. Put your answers on a manila paper.
Task: Mark, the camper, is lost. He needs to find his way through the tent. Help Mark by graphing
the exponential function f(x) = 5x. Choose the right gate to reach the tent.
1. What insights have you gained from the video?
Based on the video, can you guess our topic for today?

The teacher will ask the following questions:

1. How did you find the activity?
2. How did you come up with your answers?
3. How do you describe the graph?
4. Does the given situation model an exponential function? Why?

The relationship exists between the h time in hours and the N

number of cells in the bacteria culture models an exponential
function.

 How can you represent an exponential function? How can you do

it?

Exponential function if a function of the form f(x) = b x where

b>0 and b≠1.

Goin back to our activity, what happens between first and second
hour? Was there a division of cell happening?
How many bacteria cell grew after 2 ½ hrs?
