Clearly modern life has been impacted immensely by computers. Computers have penetrated every aspect of
our society, either for better or for worse. From supermarket scanners calculating our shopping transactions
while keeping store inventory; robots that handle highly specialized tasks or even simple human tasks,
computers do much more than just computing.

But where did all this technology come from and where is it heading? Does the future look promising or should
we worry about computers taking over the world? Or are they just a necessary evil? (Words 700 Minimum)

Some people believes that technology is destroying our communities and because of it humans are
becoming useless.

The aim of this assignment was to highlight the advancement that technology has brought.

This assignment presents the some of the advancement that technology have brought to our daily
lives.

This assignment includes my researches. I have used internet to find information’s to write this
assignment. There is no plagiarism in this assignment.

The word technology is originated from Greek word “technología”. And it is a branch of knowledge
that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and
the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure
science. The application of this knowledge for practical ends. (Anon., 2016)

Technology has a long history. It was started from 3000BC the human discovery that round nodules
of flint can be split and chipped to form a sharp edge is. Tools made in this way have been found in
Africa from about 2.5 million years ago. Gradually, over the ages, in an extremely slow version of an
engineering revolution, new and upgraded techniques are developed for striking off slivers of stone.

Modern technology, the term also refers to the comprehensive modifications brought about by digital
computing and communication. The electronic age is what we currently live in, between 1940 and
right now. The first digital computer capable of being reprogrammed to solve computing problems
was made for U.S Army as artillery firing table. It was named as ENIAC and It mainly used vacuum
tubes to do its calculations.

So far technology have developed in very fast speed, now we are able to check what is going around
the world by taping the smartphone on our hands. Technology has made this world a so small that
now we are able to reach a person at one end of the world within fraction of seconds through
telephones and internet. In this assignment I will highlight some but huge advancement that
technology have bring to this modern world.

In 90’s schools used blackboards to teach, but now there are smart classrooms in schools. Which
helps to save the time. Teachers can prepare the slides in advance and just have to open it on the
computer in the classroom no need to writing it on the blackboard. Interactive whiteboards allow
many different forms of media – including photos, maps, graphs and video, to be displayed. These
tools not only develop the classroom experience but also help to expand the variety of content that
can be used in learning. In addition, smart Boards makes learning to be more exciting because it uses
so many different forms to present information. Smart boards allow learners to easily access a wide
range of databases with the help of online resources. Teachers can use online information sources
such as knowledge databases to strengthen their lessons.

Now some universities and colleges run virtual campus, in this it provides a learning environment
where teacher and student are separated by time and space. The teacher provides course content
through course management applications, like Trueconf which Mandhu college of Maldives is using
and also multimedia resources, the Internet, and videoconferencing. It’s because in today's busy
lifestyle, most people have no time to go back to school even they have intention and willing to get a
degrees for their career advancement and job promotion. At this point online education will benefit
these people. Online education is able to provide you with a flexible learning environment to any
location as long as you have an internet connection available. With a proper time management, you
can easily plan your online learning sessions to complete your degree program. It also reduces the
travel and accommodation cost.

Most popular and effective way of communication and archiving used by governments today is called
e-government system. It is the use of information and communication technologies to improve the
activities of public sector organizations. Also refers to government policies that aim to connect
combined technologies to create an open-source computing platform in which government, citizens,
and companies can improve transparency and efficiency in their respective works. Through citizen
engagement, e-Government has improved the overall trust relationship between government and
public administrations by improving information flows and effective communication encourages
active participation by citizens. E-Government is recognized as valuable tool for building trust
between governments and people of the country. In Maldives most advanced egov system is used in
Maldives Customs service. By using it customers can check his/her import declaration form status
via internet portal, user name and password is provided to each customer to enter the portal.

Internet Banking and Mobile banking saves the valuable time of the customers, now they don’t have
to waiting in long queue because the ability to access bank accounts, make payments, and even track
investments regardless of where you are can be a big advantage. Do your banking to (withdrawals
and deposit of money) at a time and place that suits you, instead of waiting in queues. Instead of
allocating time to walk into a bank, you can check account balances, schedule and receive payments,
transfer money and organize your accounts when you’re on the go via internet banking. With the
introduction of mobile banking, you are able to access your financial information even beyond the
working hours by making a call to the bank.

In this modern world people are able to purchase whatever they wants by sitting in their living rooms.
E- Commerce has make the world market a small place. People from Maldives they are purchasing
the mobile phone which is displayed in Apple store by sitting in their sofas at home. In today’s world
you don’t need to go to music store to purchase the CD of your favorite music within a few minutes,
one can download digital products and start using them immediately.

If have a look at the health sector we can realize that how far the technology has taken us. Now we
are using 4D and 3D scan machines, MRI Machines, CT scan machines, Digital X-ray machines etc.
These machineries helps in diagnosing. And it makes easy for the doctors to treat the main cause.

By concluding this I will say that technology is making our life more simple and easy to live and it’s
heading to make it more comfortable and cost effective. Now we have the opportunity to study our
degree by sitting at home, our children are getting better and more interactive education from schools
with smart boards, we are able to do banking with our mobile phone instead of going and waiting
inside the bank with a token number. E-commerce had brought the international markets to our living
rooms. And Modern healthcare is giving us proper treatments when it is needed. With this all good
there are few negative things that are rising with tech. but compare to negative things tech is bringing
more and more advancement to our life.
