5. About the algorithm

5.1 The Platone Studio Flex Reverb

The Platone Studio Flex Reverb is COMPLETELY
FREE versatile reverb plug-in. We wanted to
make the most efficient tool with the least
possible parameters. The software also has
an EQ interface which helps with setting the
parameters more precisely.

5.2 The reverb

There are some instruments where it is possible to give a tail to the original sound
(for example pianos and guitars). We us this as a ornamentation or to create a certain
mood. Today it is an important stylistic tool in every genre of music. Although we can’t
get this effect in every instrument because of physical difficulties. Digital instruments
won’t have reverb on their own since they are in a digital space. The size of the room
can determine the reverbs profile. Sound can rebound from flat surfaces and when this
happens, we hear the echo of the original sound. There are different kinds of reverbs
depending on the acoustic properties of the room they try to emulate:

Hall reverb
Emulates a large concert hall. Usually it has a longer tail. Mostly they are used
on pads and with a little amount of hall reverb it is also possible to get the same
type of instruments in the same environment.

Chamber reverb
Emulates very small spaces like a bathroom with tiles. It can be used on vocal
or other isntruments because it generates a very clean reverb.

Room reverb
Emulates medium sized spaces like a living room. It has a very natural feel since
people are mostly hear this type of reverberation in their everyday life. It is easy
to fit in the mix and it is very versatile.

Plate reverb
It does not emulate any natural spaces. The early artificial reverbs used a
magnet. The plate started to oscillate because of the incoming signal, and this
caused a very bright and full sound.

Our reverb
Our reverb is made from very special joints. It combines hall reverbs transparency
with the characteristics of the plate reverb. It is a very versatile tool and can be
used for almost anything.

5.3 Parameters
• Length: Set the time length of your reverb in ms. The sky is the limit, but you can try
...a lot of room types.

• Pre-delay: The time between the original sound and the start of the reverb. The
...higher the value the larger the room.

• Damping: Set the amount of absortion on the high frequencies and get a wrm f
...feeling to your reverb. Give your sound a unique color.

• Width: Set the stereo width of your reverb. Get bigger impact with this handy knob.

• Dry: Set the volume of the original sound.

• Wet: Set the volume of the modified sound.

5.4 Equalizer
You don’t have to use a separate EQ plug-in because we included one in our reverb.
The graphical interface helps visualizing and modifying the frequencies of your re-
verb. You can use up to 4 notches. 1 high pass, 1 lowpass and 2 peak filters are inclu-
ded. You can set the frequency, the q-value for all of them. You can set the gain for
the peak filters and you can set the slop for the high pass and lowpass.

EQ parameters

1. Frequency: This is the point in the frequency spectrum at which an EQ is applied.

For a parametric EQ, this point is referred to as the center frequency. This could be a
”cutoff” or a ”corner” frequency based on which filter do you use.

2. Q value: The ratio of the center frequency divided by the bandwidth. Q stands for
”quality factor.”

3. Gain: How much we boost the amplitude

on the given frequency.

4. Slope: In a high pass or low pass filter,

this is the amount of attenuation in dB per
octave.
