FAQ – Master of Engineering International Students

When my documentation is approved, should I come to Calgary?

Yes. Once you arrive in Calgary, your courses will continue to be delivered online. However, you’ll be
able to form in-person study groups with your classmates. In addition, there will also be many
extracurricular opportunities for you to connect in-person with your peers.

What extracurricular activities are available?

Roll up your sleeves and explore our Maker Multiplex, sign up for a hackathon, participate in an esports
event and much more.

How many classes can I take? Is there a minimum and maximum amount?

The recommended course load is five total courses in your first year and five total courses in your
second year. If you are a full-time student, the calendar states that you need to enroll in six units (two
courses) or more per term during each the fall and winter semesters. The recommended maximum
course load per term is three courses.

I plan to arrive a few days after the official start of classes. Can I still participate in-person?

Yes, however ensure your instructor is aware of your arrival date. Please note that it is the student’s
responsibility to catch up on lectures, course material, etc

Will taking courses online impact my program progression?

No. All classes you take remotely will count towards your degree requirements and pre-requisites for
future classes will be met.

I have already registered for my classes. Do I need to re-register to participate online?

No. The MEng program office will take care of this for you. All the information you need will be housed
in D2L.

I’ll miss out orientation. Will another session be held?

Yes. Additional orientation sessions are being planned for the fall semester. When you arrive, we will
welcome you!

What are the add and drop date for courses?

All important dates for the fall 2022 semester are listed in the UCalgary academic schedule found here.
