Squaring Numbers

Finding Square Roots

Squares & Square Roots
12 to 202
Made by Liesl,
homeschoolden.com

These activities are for practicing squaring numbers from 12 all the way to 202. Knowing the
squares is helpful for students in 6th grade and up as they move into prealgebra and Algebra…
and even for geometry (using the Pythagorean Theorem – a2 + b2 = c2 ). These are the games
I’ve made for my daughter as she tackles squaring in her math program. Hope these are helpful!
If you have any special requests, be sure to let me know!

Squaring Numbers Activities

Matching Memory Game

Print the cards out on cardstock and cut the cards apart. To
make the game more challenging, print out two sets of each.
(If you use regular paper, then you’ll probably have to glue
them onto 3x5 cards so the answer doesn’t show through the
back.)
How to play: Shuffle the cards well and place them all face down in front of you. Take
turns turning over two cards. Try to remember where the cards are. If you are able to
make a pair, you get to go again. The person with the most pairs at the end wins.
Squares Board Game
This game is for up to four players. You need one die.
Print out the board game and player cards. (Students can practice 12 to
102 or 112 to 202) Cut the player cards apart. Each player needs one
player card, 1 board game token, and 6 tokens to cover their card.
To start each player places his/her game token on a blank space.
Youngest player begins. Roll the die. You can move in any direction around the board.
Try to be the first player to fill your player card completely.
The first player to fill his/her card wins the game!
Squares Bingo Game
Print out a copy of the squares memory cards. Shuffle and
place face down in a pile.
Print out one bingo card for each player. Make sure
each player has tokens to cover his/her card. (Or
laminate the bingo cards and use a dry erase marker to cross off the numbers).
Turn over one of the cards and read it aloud. Each player crosses that answer
off of his/her card.
Quick game: Be the first player to cross off two rows.
Longer game: Be the first player to cross off all the numbers on the
bingo card.
