Post-Salah Supplication

This supplication is recited after every prayer at the Qur’an school of Shaykha Maryama bint Ibrahim Niasse in Senegal. It begins with two supplications from the
Qur’an, then includes the prophetic “Supplication of Light,” and finishes with petitions for guidance, blessing, and gratitude.

ِ‫للا‬
ِ ِ‫ِب ْسِم‬ Bismillāh. In the name of God.

ِ‫ِوِفيِٱ ْْل ِخ َرِة‬ ِ ِ

َ ‫َرَّب َناِآت َناِفيِٱ ُّلد ْن َي‬
َ ‫اِح َسَن ًة‬
Rabbanā ātinā fid-dunyā O our Lord, grant us good in this
ḥasanatan wa fil-ākhirati life and good in the Hereafter, and
ِ ‫اِع َذ‬
ِ‫ابِٱ َّلن ِار‬ َ ‫ِوِق َن‬
َ ‫َح َس َن ًة‬
ḥasanatan wa qinā save us from the punishment of the
ʿadhāban-nār. Fire.
ِ‫بَِِلَِنا‬ِْ ‫اِوَِه‬
َِ ‫اِب ِْعَِدِِإِْذِ َِهَِدِْيِتََِن‬
َِ ‫وب َن‬ َ ‫غُِقُل‬ْ ‫اَِلِتُ ِز‬
َ ‫َرَّب َن‬ Rabbanā lā tuzigh qulūbanā
O our Lord, let not our hearts
َِّ ‫ِِم‬
swerve after you have guided us,
ُِ ‫تِٱِْلَِوَِّه‬
‫اب‬ َِ ‫كِِأَِْن‬ َِ ‫ح َِم ًِةِِإَِّن‬
ِْ‫كَِِر‬َِ ‫نِلُِدِْن‬ baʿda idh hadaytanā wa hab and bestow on us a mercy from
lanā milladunka raḥmatan
ِ ِ ‫ٱ َّلله َّمِٱجعل‬
ُ ‫ِوِفيِلِ َسان‬ ُ ‫ِفيَِقْلِب‬
Your presence, for indeed You are
ِ‫يِنو اًر‬ َ ‫يِنو اًر‬ ْ َْ ُ innaka antal-wahhāb. the great Bestower.
ِ ِ ‫يِنو اًر‬
ِ‫ِو َع ْن‬َ ‫يِنو اًر‬
ُ ‫يِس ْمع‬ َ ‫ِوف‬ َ ُ ‫ص ِر‬ َ ‫َوِف‬
َ ‫يِب‬
Aḷḷāhum-majʿal fī qalbī nūrā, O God, place in my heart light, in
wa fī lisānī nūrā, wa fī baṣarī my tongue light, in my sight light,
ِ‫امي‬ ِ ‫ي ِم ِينيِنو اًرِوعنِيس ِاريِنو اًرِو ِمنِأَم‬
َ ْ َ ُ ََ ْ َ َ ُ َ nūrā, wa fī samʿī nūrā, wa in my hearing light, on my right
side light, on my left side light, in
ِ‫ِو ِم ْن‬ ُ ‫يِنو ِاًرِ َو ِم ْنَِف ْوِق‬ ُ ‫ِخْل ِف‬ َ ‫ِو ِم ْن‬
ʿan yamīnī nūrā, wa ʿan
َ ‫يِنو اًر‬ َ ‫ُنو اًر‬ yasārī nūrā, wa min amāmī front of me light, behind me light,
ِ ‫يِف‬ ِ
َ ِ ِ‫يِنو اًرَِِوٱ ْج َع ْلِل‬
above me light, and below me light.
ِ‫يِنو اًر‬
ُ ‫يِنْفس‬ ُ ‫تَ ْحت‬
nūrā, wa min khalfī nūrā, wa
Place for me in my own self light,
min fawqī nūrā, wa min taḥtī
ِ ‫وأ‬
ُ ِ‫َعظ ْمِل‬
and magnify for me light.
‫يِنو ِاًر‬ ْ َ
nūrā, wajʿal lī fī nafsī nūrā,
wa aʿḍḥim lī nūrā.

 ِ‫نُِِقُِلوبَِِِنا‬ َِ ‫فَِِبِْي‬ َِ ‫تَِِبِْيِِنَِن‬
ِْ ِ‫اِوِأَِل‬ َِ ‫حَِِذا‬ ِْ َ‫ٱ َِّلل ُِهَِّمِِأ‬
ِْ ِ‫صِل‬ Aḷḷāhumma aṣliḥ dhāta O God, rectify whatever is between
bayninā wa allif bayna us, reconcile our hearts, guide us to
ِِ ‫لظلُِ َِم‬
ِ‫ات‬ ُِّ ‫نِٱ‬ ِِ ‫جَِن‬
َِ ‫اِم‬ ِِ ‫لِمِ َِوَِن‬َِ ‫لس‬
َِّ ‫يلِٱ‬ َِ ‫َِوِٱ ِْهِِدَِن‬
َِ ‫اِسِب‬ qulūbinā wahdinā sabīlas- the path of Peace, save us from
darknesses to light, and put
salāmi, wa najjinā
ِ‫ظ َِه َِرِ ِِمِْن َِها‬
َِ ِ‫شِ َِما‬ َِ ‫اح‬ ِِ ‫جِِنِْبَِناِٱِْلَِفَِو‬
َِ ‫ورَِِو‬ِِ ‫ِإَِلىِٱ ُِّلن‬ minaḍḥulumāti ilan-nūri, wa distance between us and all
indecency, the manifest of it and
jannibnal-fawāḥisha mā
ِ‫ط َن‬
َِ ‫اِب‬
َِ ‫َِوَِم‬ ḍḥara minhā wa mā baṭan.
the hidden.

ِ‫ارَِنا‬ ِ‫ص‬َِ ‫اِوِأَِْب‬ ِِ ‫س َِم‬

َِ ‫اعَِن‬ ِْ َ‫اِفيِِأ‬ ِِ ‫كَِِلَِن‬ِْ ‫ار‬ِ ‫ٱ َِّلل ُِهَِّمَِِب‬ Aḷḷāhumma bārik lanā fī O God, bless us in our hearing, our
sight, our hearts, our spouses, and
َِ ‫اِوُِذِرَِّي ِِاتَِن‬ ِِ ‫اِوِأَ ِْزَِو‬
asmāʿinā wa abṣārinā wa
َِ ‫عَِلِْيَِناِِإَِّن‬
ِ‫ك‬ َِ ِ‫ب‬ِْ ُ‫اِوِت‬ َِ ‫اجَِن‬ َِ ‫َِوُِقُِلوبَِِِن‬ qulūbinā wa azwājinā wa our progeny. Relent to us—indeed
You are the Oft Relenting, the
‫يم‬ ِِ‫لر‬
ُِ ‫ح‬ َِّ ‫ابِٱ‬ ُِ ‫تِٱلِتََِّّو‬ َِ ‫أ َْن‬ dhurriyyātinā watub ʿalaynā,
innaka antat-tawwābur-
Most Deeply Merciful.

َِ ِ‫ينِِب َِهاَِِقاِبِل‬
ِ‫ين‬ ِ ِ ‫ينِِلِِِن ِع ِمِِت‬ ِِ ‫اِش‬
َ ‫كِ ُم ْثن‬ َ َ ْ َِ ‫اكِر‬ َِ ‫ج َِعِْلَِن‬ ِْ ‫َِوٱ‬ raḥīm. Make us grateful for Your
َِ ‫بِٱِْل َِعاَِل ِِم‬ َِ ‫اِوِأَِِت َِّم َِه‬
blessings, extoling them, and
‫ين‬ َِّ ‫اِر‬
َِ ‫اِي‬َِ ‫اِعَِلِْيَِن‬ َِ ‫َِل َِه‬
wajʿalnā shākirīna liniʿmatika
muthnīna bihā qābilīna lahā accepting them, and complete them
wa atimmahā ʿalaynā yā for us, O Lord of the Worlds.
rabbal-ʿālamīn.

Conclusion of Whole Supplication with Qur’an 37:180-2

ِ,‫ن‬
َِ ‫صُفو‬ ِ ‫سبحانِربِكِر ِبِاْل ِع َّزِةِع َّماِي‬ May your Lord, the Lord of Might,
َ َ َ َ َ َ َُْ subḥāna rabbika rabbil-
be exalted above how they
ِِٰ ِ ‫ِواْلحمد‬,ِ‫ين‬
ُ ْ َ َ َِ ِ‫ِعَلىِاْل ُم ْرَسل‬
ʿizzati ʿammā yaṣifūn wa
ِ‫ِر ِب‬
َ ‫ِِل‬ َ ‫َو َس َل ٌم‬ salāmun ʿalal-mursalīn wal-
wrongfully describe Him, may
peace be upon the messengers, and
.‫ين‬َِ ‫اْل َعاَل ِم‬ ḥamdu lillāhi rabbil-ʿālamīn. all praise is due to God, Lord of the
Worlds.
