ANGLE

MEASURE
ANGLE
An angle is formed by rotating a ray through
its endpoint called vertex. The starting
position of the ray is called the initial side of
the angle while its ending position is called the
terminal side.
TERMINAL SIDE
ANGLE MEASURE
■ One complete revolution of an
angle is divided into 360 equal
parts is called degree, denoted by °
■ A degree is divided into 60 equal
parts called minutes denoted by ‘
■ A minute is divided into 60 equal
parts called seconds denoted by ‘‘
RADIAN MEASURE
■ One complete revolution of an angle is 2𝜋
■ If 2𝜋 is divided into 8 equal parts, then each part
𝜋
measures 4
𝜋
■ Half of the revolution is equal to 𝜋 and quarter is 2
■ If the 𝜋 is divided into 6 equal parts, then each
𝜋
part measures
6

TYPES OF
ANGLES
QUADRANTAL ANGLE
REFERENCE ANGLE
■ The reference angle is
defined as the acute angle
■ It is measuring less than 90
degrees
■ It is always the smallest
angle
■ It makes the terminal side of
an angle with x-axis

COTERMINAL ANGLES
■ Given angles A
and B in standard
position, we say
that A and B are
coterminal if they
have the same
terminal sides
COTERMINAL
ANGLES
To find the coterminal angle,
just add or subtract 360° to
or from the given angle

ARC LENGTH,
VELOCITY, AND
AREA OF SECTOR
DEFINITION: ARC LENGTH

SAMPLE PROBLEM #1
A 15-inch-long windshield wiper blade starts at a horizontal
resting position and swipes upward on an arc at an angle of
135-degrees. Determine the length of the arch that the wiper
cover.
SAMPLE PROBLEM #2

Find the radius of the circle

whose central angles is 75-
degrees and subtends an arc of
15 cm.
DEFINITION:
SECTOR OF A CIRCLE
A sector of a circle is
the region bounded by
two radii r an arc
intercepted by a central
angle θ.
DEFINITION: AREA OF A SECTOR

SAMPLE
PROBLEM #1
A garden has a sprinkler that
sprays water over a distance
of 10 meters and rotates
through an angle of 150-
degrees. What is the area of
the garden the sprinkler
waters?
LINEAR SPEED AND ANGULAR VELOCITY

LINEAR SPEED AND ANGULAR VELOCITY

SAMPLE PROBLEM #1
The length of the blade of an
electric fan is 10 in. If its
propeller rotates at 25 rpm
(revolution per minute), find
the angular speed of the
propeller in radians per minute.
SAMPLE PROBLEM #2
The length of the blade of an
electric fan is 10 in. If its
propeller rotates at 25 rpm
(revolution per minute), find
the linear speed of each tip
of the blades.
