Varco PRODUCT BULLETIN NO.: TDS-99-14 Top Drive [A Varco Company Product Information Date: September 16, 1999 SUBJECT: Potting Inspection of AC Top Drive Connectors PURPOSE: Advise Customers to Check Potting Integrity EFFECTIVITY: All Portable AC Top Drives (TDS-9S, -10S & -118) Due to several incidents of water ingress into AC Top Drive connectors, Varco has determined that an inspection of the potting should be done as soon as possible. Constant lifting on the connector and vibration can cause the connector to loosen itself from the potting and cable. Varco has improved the quality of its potting compound and recommends replacing the old potting, Varco P/N 77992-1080, 3M Scotchcast 2112, which is very soft and rubbery, with a new replace- ‘ment potting, Varco P/N 127386, 3M Compound #2130. Newer Varco cables are potted with a proprietary potting compound called Calthane 1500 thats not available in small quantities, thus not offered as a field retrofit.
