ASSIGNMENT 6 (Observing a student): Discretely observe one student in your assigned classroom

during an extended period of direct instruction.

Detail what was going on in the environment, and what you observed the student doing while the lesson
was being given. Make sure to document ALL behavior in relationship to what was being presented by the
classroom teacher. Please describe the setting, the lesson that was given, if the student was on task and
engaged in the lesson, and what you uncovered about putting yourself in a lesson from the student’s point
of view. >>>

The lesson that was given was learning about suffixes and how to figure them out and how to
spell put the word with the suffix the students were given. The student that I observe was
focused on the video the teacher was showing and even take some notes on her sticky notes.
The teacher started to give examples of different suffixes and how it changes the words. The
student wrote down all the examples on the worksheet they got and made to pay close
attention to what her teacher was saying and how they can figure their suffixes. Towards the
end of the lesson the teacher gave out and worksheet, she was the only that took her time
and making to look over her notes and remembering what her teacher told them. The teacher
went around and told the whole class that she was the only that did the whole worksheet
correct and took her time to figure out the worksheet. Taking notes, listening and writing down
what the teacher was saying and taking time to figure out the worksheet can lead students to
understand the lesson better and get their work done correctly.
