Job description :

 Consults operating room schedule to determine equipment needs for


special procedures and prepares operating room accordingly.
 Stocks anesthesia supplies and drugs in all operating and delivery suites.
Maintains adequate supplies of medical oxygen, nitrous oxide, and air.
 Maintains, calibrates, and troubleshoots anesthesia department equipment
according to instructions and protocols of equipment manuals. Cleans and
disinfects anesthesia equipment after use.
 Assists with sterile procedures, blood transfusions, administration of spinal,
epidural, and other pain blockers.
 Cleans, sterilizes and sets up all types of anesthesia equipment and their
components including blood gas equipment, anesthesia machines, venous
and arterial pressure lines, endotracheal tubes, nasopharyngeal tubes,
vaporizers, ventilators, EKG monitors, blood warmers, infusion pumps, Bair
huggers, etc.;
 Checks, cleans and maintains anesthesia machines on a daily basis, refilling
vaporizers with anesthetic agents, changing the sodalime, changing the
nitrous, oxygen and air cylinders as needed, and checking for leakages, etc.
 Reports blood-gas test results to anesthesiologist and enters information in
patients' chart;
 Ensures that medications, drugs and anesthetics are properly stored and
refrigerated, and properly disposed of when unusable;
 Assists anesthesiologists as needed during surgery;
 Places orders to insure adequate inventory and follows up with appropriate
sources to ensure their delivery;
 Sets up and clears anesthesia carts before and after surgery;
 Carries out policies and procedures set by the Infection Control Unit to
insure compliance;
 Performs related duties and assignments as required to insure the smooth
and effective operation of the Anesthesia Department;
 Washes and disinfects anesthesia equipment including tubes, nasal airways,
stethoscope, face masks and intubation equipment
 Coordinates the timely repair and maintenance of anesthesia equipment
 May transport patients to surgery / icu, explaining procedures to patients
 Ensure that the airway is clear for proper air flow from in and out of the
patient's body
 Assembles and maintains standardized procedure kits for blocks, central
lines, arterial line, blood product infusions and fiber optic scopes
 Making sure that patients are positioned in such a way NOT to cause
discomfort or injury during their procedure.
 Maintain compliance with hospital training requirements and BLS
certification.
 Provide emergency support: In the event of an anesthesia-related
emergency, such as an adverse reaction or complication, the Anesthesia
Technician must be prepared to assist the medical team. They are trained
to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations, providing
necessary support and equipment.
 Accurate documentation is essential in the healthcare field. An Anesthesia
Technician is responsible for maintaining records of anesthesia equipment,
medications used, vital sign measurements, and any other relevant
information related to patient care.
 To strictly adhere with safety protocols and sterilization techniques.
 To follow ICC policies and to implement in a timely manner.
