Composite Construction Methods are having to use two different building

materials and making it work together to resist or deflect structural force. Examples
of composite materials includes concrete, reinforced plastics, cement, steel,
reinforced concrete, composite wooded beams, and composite metal decking.

Composite Slab

These days one of the best examples of a composite construction is using a steel
deck and concrete fill connected by a shear studs connectors as shown in the photo
making the structure stronger. Composite floor systems are known for having a good
reputation for its high quality.

Composite Beam

These are the example of composite

beams. And if the steel beam is
connected to a concrete slab that acts as
a one unit, then it is called a composite
beam. Steel beams are connected to the
slab by a shear connector. Concrete and
steel are able to utilized effectively.
Composite Columns

These are examples of composite column.

This type of column provides strong load
capacity however they are difficult to
construct. These are applied to high rise
buildings.

Advantage and Disadvantages

• Inexpensive • Additional subcontractor

• Lighter steel frame needed
• Reduced building height • Time costly as shear
• Lengthens span of slab connectors must be installed
• Low live load deflection in different schedule

• Lowers the cost of steel frame • This must be performed by

• Floors are stiffer experienced contractor.
