Quackery
• promotion of false or unproven method for profit. it occurs when:
• healthcare is administered by unlikened health care providers
• promises of cures are made about products
• self-proclaimed therapeutic procedures are performed before they are scientifically validated

VICTIMS
• Gullible
- they tend to believe easily something that is printed or broadcasted without verifying the
truthfulness of the particular service.

• Desperate
- they are facing an incurable health condition, leaving this their last option.

• Isolated
- they become the attracted to unconventional methods because they distrust medical science.

• Belief in the supernatural


- they tend to believe in the promising influence of a mystical power.

• -Overconfident
- they firmly believe that they are more knowledgeable and skilled than scientific researchers.

WAYS TO RECOGNIZE A QUACK


• Health care is administered by unsilenced health care providers.
• Promises of cures are made about products that are usually useless.
• Self-proclaimed therapeutic procedures are performed before they are scientifically validated.

WAYS TO AVOID BEING VICTIMS OF QUACKS AND QUACKERY


• Remember that quackery seldom looks outlandish.
• Ignore any practitioner who says that most diseases are caused by faulty nutrition or can be remedied
by taking supplements.
• Be wary of anecdotes and testimonials.
• Be wary of pseudo medical jargon.
• Don’t fall for paranoid accusations.
• Forget about “secret cures.”
• Be wary of herbal remedies.
• Be skeptical of any product claimed to be effective against a wide range of unrelated diseases—
particularly diseases that are serious.
• Ignore appeals to your vanity.
• Don’t let desperation cloud your judgment.
