Appendix 3
Troubleshooting Guide www.eardatek.com

If the SATCOM link broken, it may come from below reasons ( Factors effect link stability)

A.Hardware issue. The antenna may miss pointing or have B.Installation issue. If the installation site is not optimal,
tracking error, it may come from wrong configuration of the antenna may be obstructed by the mast, deck house,
antenna or software issue or some related hardware defective funnel, boom on dock, tall building or mountain, etc, all
problem (like LNB,BUC,motor, belt, switch ,cable etc.) this blockage will more or less result in poor reception.
TX is more sensitive than RX for blockage.

C.Satellite coverage issue. The antenna cannot work out of the D.Hub station service issue. If service under the
satellite beam range. beam is not available, plz double confirm with NOC.

39
Appendix 3
Troubleshooting Guide www.eardatek.com

If the SATCOM link broken, it may come from below reasons ( Factors effect link stability)

E.Interference issue. If not installed with safe distance from RF F.Weather issue. The rain attenuation, caused by
source like radar ,VHF Tx antenna, GPS , AIS ,etc., VSAT antenna rain or thick clouds at the location of the antenna
will get bad reception effected by RF interference. and the hub station, affects the stability of the
satellite link.

G.Low elevation issue. Because GEO satellites are all over the
equator ,when VSAT terminal is in high latitude area, the elevation
angle of VSAT pointing is low (maybe less than 20°). In this case,
antenna will easily miss pointing with high wave so link may be broken
by this reason. In high latitude area, GEO satellite VSAT may not work 40
smoothly.

Basic information confirmation

1. Confirm the GPS icon and OPENAMIP icon appeared on the main page of the ACU
Make sure that the GPS icon and OPENAMIP icon appear correctly. At the same time, if the GPS module works properly, longitude and latitude
and the time must be correct.
This icon must be displayed to indicate that the antenna can obtain GPS signal.

This icon must flash, representing normal communication between the antenna's ACU and MODEM, and the OPENAMIP protocol is working properly.

( Pic 1 ) ( Pic 2 )

The GPS icon can be displayed to prove that the antenna GPS module is ok and to obtain longitude and latitude. Wait for five minutes, if it is
not displayed, it is proved that there is obstacle of blocking signal or that the module is not working properly, check the connection of GPS module
firstly (check connectors and GPS cable).
The OPENAMIP icon flashes to prove that the ACU and MODEM communication is normal. If not, first check the IP settings (right-click to the IP
VIEW page) to confirm the ACU settings.Whether the ACU IP and MODEM IP are same segment, whether the port number is correct, and whether it
corresponds to the OPT file. If the OPT file is not familiar, you can contact NOC or factory assistance. After setting IP correctly, it does not flash properly,
check the network cables connected by the ACU and MODEM.
41

Basic information confirmation

2. Confirm the antenna status displayed on the ACU View
Press the right button of the ACU to enter ACU View mode to see the overall state of the antenna.

First confirm that the antenna is in MOD mode. If not, press OK, go to Setup mode---lock mode -- select MOD and save the settings.Confirm
whether the longitude of the target satellite, LNB LO, the receiving frequency RXIF, and the polarization are matched with the OPT file. This part
if Unfamiliar, you can directly consult the hub station NOC personnel Or contact VSAT factory to assist with interpretation.

Enter the Status View and observe the antenna supply voltage first. ADU power supply requires 24V ±0.8V / BDU power supply normal at 48V ± 1.5V.
Also focus on the AGC value, which is typically higher than 37000 if locked.

SNR refers to the signal signal-to-noise ratio.Generally higher than 5. If less than 5, consider there are obstacle of blocking signal, or bad
weather , or satellite EIRP is not enough and other reasons.

Status is the current state of MODEM.

IN_NETWORK works on behalf of MODEM and can access the Internet.
IN_ACQUISITION represents the acquisition network, which is the link-up process, the antenna is aligned, and Rx and Tx are ok.
WAITING_FOR_ACQUISITION the antenna is aligned, Rx is OK, and Tx is ready to start establishing a link.
DETECTED stands for Rx ok.
WAITING_FOR_RX_LOCK the antenna Rx has not locked the star successfully, MODEM is waiting for the antenna to be aligned with the satellite.
WRONG_NETWORK on behalf of MODEM does not have authorized access to the primary station. Plz call for NOC with help.

First, it must be made sure that the antenna and ACU are properly connected according to page 18. If the connectors are correct, here are the steps.
a. Disconnect the coaxial cables between the antenna and ACU, and check RX and TX coaxial cables connections with the buzzer of multimeter.
If RX and TX coaxial cables are broken, contact the manufacturer to replace.
b. Connect TX coaxial cable to the ACU, keep TX coaxial cable and antenna disconnected, and turn on the ACU power. Use the multimeter to measure
TX coaxial cable near to the antenna, and the normal voltage reading is about 48V. If the 48V voltage is abnormal, check the ACU mainboard. If
the 48V voltage is normal, connect TX coaxial cable with the antenna.

CASE 2.
The status shows Loss, what do I do?

This status indicates a loss of signal. First, it must be made sure that the antenna does not have any obstacles to pointing range. If not, check that the
antenna AGC_T (AGC threshold) setting. This value setting is At Setup Parameter - Set SAT INFO---7. The AGCT ,sets the corresponding value. It can be
set to 20 as a test.
If the problem cannot be corrected, the antenna hardware may be faulty. Need to contact the manufacturer with help.

Case 3.
The GPS icon shows normal, OPENAMIP icon shows normal, but the antenna is keeping SEARCH. What should I do?
First , it must be made sure that the antenna does not have any obstructs to pointing range. If NOT, then continue.
Step1, set the antenna to TVRO mode to verify that there is a problem with the hardware. Please follow the steps according to page 45.
If all the local broadcast satellites are still SEARCH, you need to contact the manufacturer to confirm the hardware problem. If NOT, then continue.
Step 2. Set the antenna to AGC mode to verify if there is a VSAT carrier existing. The settings are the same as the TVRO mode. Here are the steps:
a. The antenna is set to AGC mode.
b. Frequency FREQ, bandwidth BW, polarization POL ,LNB LO ,all this parameters of the VSAT RX carrier (which can be read from the OPT file or asked
directly from NOC) must be set correctly. After saving the settings, see if the antenna can track.
d. Take off the antenna radome to check. Because antenna may lock other satellites of the same frequency by mistake in AGC mode, you must check
if the pointing is correct to target satellite. If the antenna points correctly, the presence of the service VSAT carrier is demonstrated. If you point to an
error, prove that the satellite is locked incorrectly. Move the antenna to new direction by manual after turning off the power and change to a starting
position to see if antenna can lock the target satellite. If several repetitions have not been locked to the target satellite, the carrier does not exist or the
signal is too weak.If the AGC mode is still unable to TRACKING, you will need to contact NOC to confirm that the carrier parameters of Rx is incorrect.

CASE 4.
GPS icon shows normal, OPENAMIP icon shows normal, status shows TRACKING, still can not access the Internet,
how to do?

First, please read page 39 carefully and understand the reasons of bad reception of antenna. Then make sure that the antenna does not have any
obstacles when pointing to sky . Continue the following tests.
a. Confirm that the antenna has been tested for Terminal Commissioning with NOC, especially if the P1dB test has been performed after wiring.
The P1dB test is to ensure that the BUC is operating in a normal state and that the Tx is transmitted with power which is sufficient or no output
saturation. If not, you will need to re-do the Terminal Commissioning with NOC.
b. Open the radome to check the BUC working status, BUC working light needs to be lit green.
c. Contact NOC to confirm that MODEM is in network.
d. Local debug. Using the USB record function, the antenna status record file ksaculog.txt is sent to the manufacturer for analysis.First insert the USB
flash to AUC and select Setup Mode ---5. SET BACKUP --- USB record,USB flash will automatically generate a file ksaculog.txt, please according to
the manufacturer's needs, record a period of time to send this log file to the manufacturer for analysis.
