This document provides welding procedure specifications for repairing a valve at the NTPC Simhadri plant. It specifies that shielded metal arc welding will be used with a minimum preheat of 150-200°C. Electrodes CGS 680 and COB 6 with a diameter of 3.15 mm will be used for the base layer and hardness layer, respectively. Non-destructive testing including dye penetrant and visual testing will be performed after welding.

WELDING PROCESS: SHIELDED METAL ARC WELDING (SMAW) 1. Minimum Preheat : 150 ⁰C-200⁰C (min) 2. Welding process machine : SMAW (shielded metal arc welding) 3. Electrode Name : 1. For Base layer: Cgs 680 2. For Hardness layer :COB 6 4. Electrode diameter : 1. For Base layer : 3.15 mm 2. For Hardness layer : 3.15 mm 5. Tests to be performed : Final NDE (PT) (dye penetrant testing) and (VT) (visual testing) PROCEDURE: • Removal of all the 05 MM of material in total inclusive of hardness layer and base layer • Ensure removal of all the visible defects by visual testing (VT). • NDE (PT) inspection of all repair areas shall be carried out before welding. • Notation of all the dimensions of the valve before welding shall be done. • Preheating of the valve shall be done up to 150⁰C-200⁰C. • Electrodes used for welding shall be heated at 50⁰C in the welding oven. • Base layer welding shall be done by special electrode i.e. CGS 680 & COB 6 (for P-22 material) • Temperature of the base material shall be maintained at 150⁰C-200⁰C. No moisture shall be allowed on “as welded”P-22 material. • Re-establish the preheating procedure at 150⁰C (reheat) • Application of hardness layer. • Application of COB 6 after the layer of parent material is deposited and grinding is done. • Cooling of valve shall be initiated to below 0⁰C-35⁰C and welding shall be visually inspected. • For PWHT (post weld heat treatment) procedure, minimum soak time shall be 02 hours @200⁰C to 250⁰C per heat treat travel. • Profiling of the seat to OEM specifications shall be done. • Final NDE,PT as per ASME Section I and VT as per ASME B31 shall be carried out. • After completion of necessary testing procedures, an authorized inspector will review the weld data package. • After the receipt of approval from authorized inspector further process of grinding, lapping, blue matching shall be carried out.
