Landscape
GHD’ s 90% design stage will build on the previous 60% design stage and the concept developed by the
joint design teams to develop drawings and documents that include the following
Landscape plans will define areas of ground covers, lawn, shrubs, shade trees, palms and stone mulch.
Landscape planting and material installation details will indicate the planting and layout method as well
as installation of landscape elements across the site.
Using the plant list derived from the tender documents as a guide, GHD will provide a plant palate
including scientific and common names, plant characteristics, plant uses, sizes, and colored images of all
plant species. Plants that do not have a proven record in the coastal zone will be noted for possible
substitution with more appropriate plant species after discussion with the client. Plant spacings in some
cases will be adjusted to suit the local conditions.
GHD will provide updated specifications based on the original documents supplied by Bechtel OBI.
2.5.5 Air Traffic Control Tower, General Aviation Terminal and Airline Operations Facility –
Facilities C3100, C4700 & C2300
These three facilities feature well designed and functional landscapes designed to enhance the building
surroundings. The car parking areas included climbing plants attached to shade structures and there are
large islands of shrub and tree plantings.
» Groundcovers will generally range from 100mm-400mm in height and 200mm-400mm in spread
depending on the species
» Maintain lawn areas through mowing, trimming of edges, thatch control and aeration

LANDSCAPE PALMS
LANDSCAPE PALMS
LANDSCAPE PALMS
Habit: The gray trunk is ringed with closely set leaf scars
although usually at least part of the trunk remains
covered with dead leaves that hang in a thatch. The
solitary trunk bulges at the ground and becomes
slender as it approaches the crown. As the leaves
die, they fall against the trunk to create the "hula
skirt" effect for which this palm is famous.

Habit: The long, shiny, rich green leaves are hard and
strap-like to narrowly lance-shaped, with barely any
stalk. The yellow to soft orange, slightly perfumed
flowers are held on long stalks. They bloom on and
off for most of the year in their native habitat. The
fruit are oddly shaped, fleshy drupes, rounded and
with prominent ridges. They ripen from green
through red to black and are regarded by some as a
lucky charm, even though dangerously poisonous.

LANDSCAPE SHRUBS
Requirements: Will flourish in full sun but can still do well in partial
sun. Prefers light, sandy soil and is drought
tolerant.
LANDSCAPE SHRUBS
Requirements: Does best in full sun with sandy, very well drained
soil, either neutral or acidic. Is very drought tolerant.
Excellent for xeriscaping.

Habit:
Requirements:
Height x Spread:
Requirements: Nearly all aloes prefer a warm dry climate and well-
drained sandy & sandy loam soil, but many will
tolerate a few degrees of frost once established.
Grow the larger species in full sun, the smaller types
in part-shade.

watering may cause rotting at the leaf bases and at
the roots.
Height x Spread:
Requirements: Bermuda grass does not mind soils that are sandy.
Its tolerance of hot, dry weather provides the added
benefit of not requiring as much watering as other
lawns. It prefers full sun to filtered shade.
