Junior Debate 03 Fin (00) 20201019094618
Kimberly got her allowance today. She has been waiting for it all
month. She has been dying to get her hands on this cute pair of shoes that
she saw at the mall. Now, she has the money for it. Kimberly called her best
friend, Lisa and asked her to come shopping with her. Lisa said she would if
dinner would be on Kimberly. The latter agreed. It’s her allowance day after
all. The two friends went around the mall all day. They kept buying snacks
and drinks and they were having so much fun. Kimberly saw this beautiful
pair of earrings and she just couldn’t resist so she bought them as well. The
friends had dinner at a trendy restaurant and had ice cream for dessert. It’s
almost time to go home so Kimberly led the way to buy the pair of shoes she
went to the mall for. She checked her wallet to count how much money she
had left. She was so astounded to see that she only had enough for a bus
ride home. Kimberly shrugged her shoulders. She would just buy the shoes
next month. Do you think Kimberly spent her allowance well?

Should kids be given
a regular allowance?
Junior Debate Book 03
Let’s remember!
Read the paragraph and fill in the blanks with the correct word.
A regular allowance can teach a child to plan ahead and make sure that
he or she would have enough money for the things needed on a daily basis.
It is a basic lesson on managing their ___________ and habits. On the other
hand, there is also an advantage in giving a child pocket money only when
they need something or they ask for it. This would give an opportunity for
parents to discuss and explain the importance of ____________ spending to
children. In other families, some parents give an allowance to their kids when
they do household chores or get good ______________. This can serve a
great ____________ for children that would enable them to build good habits.
On the other hand, these children might also get the wrong idea. They might
just do the right thing if they would get something in ______________. It could
go either way. That’s why parents must continuously communicate with their
children about the importance of hard work, money and responsibility.

You only need to turn the news on and you can see the
numerous dangers in our society. It’s in our parents’ nature
to protect us from all the scary things out there. They just
want to make sure that we are safe, healthy and happy.
Let’s admit it. There are some of us who act irrationally
at times. It’s up to our parents to recognize signs that it’s
time to put privacy aside and focus on keeping the child
out of harm’s way.

Heidi is raising her hand after her teacher asked a question. She did some
advanced work last night and she is confident about her answer. Unfortunately, the
teacher didn’t see her. There are 52 students in the class and she’s sitting at the
back so it’s not easy to spot Heidi. She called on someone else. Her classmates
were giving out incorrect answers so the teacher kept asking for more volunteers.
Finally, the teacher saw Heidi and called on her. She stood up and gave her answer.
She got it correctly and the class let out a collective sigh of relief. The teacher
moved on to the next question. Heidi looked around her. She also knew the answer
but she didn’t raise her hand anymore. Her teacher already called on her once.
That meant that he would give other students the opportunity to speak in class. It
would take a while if nobody gives the correct answer. Heidi felt bored so she just
stared out the window. It’s going to be a long class. Do you think that having many
students in the class will not allow the students to learn effectively?

Junior Debate Book 03
Parker was looking out the window of his classroom at 10:00 in the
morning. The sun was shining and he could hear some children playing
soccer outside. He’s feeling a little bit suffocated and he longed to run free
with those children. The weather was too beautiful to stay indoors. Just then,
the bell rang. It’s time for recess. Parker walked out of the classroom, along
the hallway and out the double doors of his school. It’s like his feet had a
mind of their own. He didn’t know where he was going. He just needed to
get out of that place. Parker went to the amusement park. He went on ride
after ride until he felt sick to his stomach. He ate junk food like there’s no
tomorrow. He went home feeling happy and satisfied. That was until he saw
his father waiting outside for him with a stern look on his face. That meant
only one thing. Parker was in a world of trouble. Do you think it’s good for

I think that there are too many rules for kids nowadays.
I get that times are changing and adults want us to
be more careful but it’s undeniable that it sometimes
suffocates and overwhelms us. Once in a while, we get
the urge to flee and get as far away as we can. However,
there are some kids who don’t handle the stress very well.
They can hurt themselves and sometimes fall into a pit
of depression. Sometimes, a small and harmless thing
like skipping school can actually help prevent a worse
situation.

It’s a crucial time for all students. This is the time when we
need to prepare for the future. If we skip school and we
miss a day, we would fall behind. We would need to catch
up. That cycle would continue. We won’t be able to get
caught up without putting too much stress on ourselves.
Skipping school may be fun for a moment but it’s not a
wise decision. We shouldn’t lose sight of our goals right
now.

There are other social media sites with the “Dislike” button
in one form or another. If Facebook would choose to
update their own product, then so be it. We have nothing
to be afraid of. We need to support changes and progress
in society. This may just be a simple thing for some people
but the effects on development may be felt after many
years.
