so many stories. Why do you think this type of story occurs so often?
This kind of story happens a lot because it reflects experiences that many people can
relate to, making it common in various cultures and times.
2. Why are people drawn to stories with heroic characters?
People are drawn to stories with heroic characters because they inspire hope,
courage, and the belief that individuals can overcome obstacles and make a positive impact.
3. Heroes often face difficult challenges, and they don’t always succeed. What do we learn by
reading or watching heroic characters endure difficult challenges?
Watching heroic characters face challenges teaches us about resilience,
determination, and the complexities of the human condition, offering valuable lessons for our
own lives.
4. Think about heroic stories that you have enjoyed or that are important to you. Why do
those stories appeal to you more than others?
For me, it would be Sherk and The Lion King. These stories have a unique approach
to storytelling. Sherk, offers a humorous twist on traditional fairytales and The Lion King,
captivates me with its powerful themes of responsibility, loss, and self-discovery. Ultimately, I
like these stories because they’re not just fun; they also have important messages that touch
my heart.

Film: SHERK
The Departure:
 Who is the hero of this story?
Sherk
 What is the hero’s known world?
The known world for Sherk is his isolated swap
 What is the call to action?
The call to action is Sherk being tasked with rescuing Princess Fiona to get his
swamp back from Lord Farquaad.
The Initiation:
 Who or what is the villain?
The villain is Lord Farquaad.
 Who are the companions?
The companions are the Duloc Guards.
 What tests and trials does hero encounter?
Sherk undergoes a series of challenges on his hero’s journey, including rescuing
Princess Fiona from a dragon-guarded tower, dealing with the initially annoying Donkey to
test his patience and cooperation skills, facing the formidable Dragon with his companions,
navigating challenges in the strict city of Duloc en route to Lord Fraquaad’s castle, and
finally, a confrontation at the castle where Sherk confesses his feelings to Fiona, leading to a
showdown and the revelation of her true form.
 What happens in the climax?
In the climax, Sherk confesses his love to Fiona before she married to Farquaad,
revealing her true form and thwarting the wedding.
The Return:
 How does the hero change after the climax, and what new skills do they bring back to
their known world?
Sherk undergoes personal growth, learning to open up emotionally. He gains the
realization that love and acceptance are more important than his solitude.
What else did you notice about this story and how it fits into the hero’s journey model?
The movie “Sherk” fits into the hero’s journey model by featuring reluctant hero, a
call to adventure, challenges and allies during the initiation, and a transformative return
with newfound wisdom and change in character. It also includes typical elements like mentor
(Donkey), a threshold guardian (Dragon), and resurrection (Fiona’s true love breaking the
curse)
