➔ Only 1.75 miles away from Canada border
➔ Was once the leader in automobile manufacturing and steel production

The Rise and Downfall of Detroit
➔ Peaked in the 1940s and 1950s
◆ 1.86 million population
◆ 296,000 people had manufacturing jobs
➔ Slowed down as factories moved to the suburbs, rather than the city
➔ Ford, General Motors, and Chevy have closed dozens of factories
◆ Left people unemployed, still up to this day
➔ 2008 Housing Crisis
◆ 70,000 abandoned homes in Detroit and outside suburbs
◆ 90,000 vacant lots
◆ Nearly a 37% unemployment rate in early 2020
