As a student, I can demonstrate the value of discipline by starting with small yet
simple things. The first is to be responsible enough with my own trash by properly
throwing it inside the designated trash bins. Even seeing another’s trash, I will initiate
to throw it voluntarily. In addition, be diligent about passing assignments and projects
on time and not waste any time. If a certain task is being given, I’ll do it immediately
to avoid cramming. Furthermore, I will create my own timetable in order to organize
things—what are the things that need to be prioritized, and so on. This will result in a
stress-free life as a student. Lastly, I need to remind myself that I have goals and I
should not lose heart, and in that way, there will be consistency in practicing the value
of discipline because, as the saying goes, “discipline is rarely enjoyable but almost
always profitable.” What I sow is what I reap in the future.
Service is the act of doing something beneficial for someone without expecting
anything in return. It implies serving with love rather than against one's will. It is an act
of humility to sacrifice one's comfort and needs for the common good of others. One
should be selfless enough to serve genuinely. Genuine service must be done out of love,
sincerity, and without complaint. In this way, an individual can be able to touch the
hearts and lives of other people. The main pre-requisite for serving is having love and
passion for helping other people. Helping may take the form of using your time to
volunteer in any charity organizations, utilizing your expertise in teaching out-of-school
youths, and other acts of service. Furthermore, it is not necessary that you give tangible
things in order to serve, but it is the intention, effort exerted, and willingness to help
that matter the most. Remember, not all are blessed with material wealth, so be a
channel of blessings to others when you have the capacity to serve in your own little
ways.
As the saying goes “By serving others, you feel useful”, it reminds us that we are
meant to be in service with one another. Having a positive impact on someone else's life
reminds you of the value you bring and gives your life a purpose. Lastly, being in service
to others means you are also serving the one who created us.
