Dangers of Hypocrisy

The hypocrite men and hypocrite women are of one another. They enjoin what is
wrong and forbid what is right and close their hands. They have forgotten Allah,
so He has forgotten them [accordingly]. Indeed, the hypocrites - it is they who are
the defiantly disobedient. [Quran 9:67]

And when it is said to them, "Come to what Allah has revealed and to the
Messenger," you see the hypocrites turning away from you in aversion. [Quran
4:61]

Indeed, the hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of the Fire - and never will you
find for them a helper. [Quran 4:145]

Narrated Abi Waih:

Hudhaifa bin Al-Yaman said, 'The hypocrites of today are worse than those of the
lifetime of the Prophet (‫)ﷺ‬, because in those days they used to do evil deeds
secretly but today they do such deeds openly.' [Sahih al-Bukhari, Book 92:
Afflictions and the End of the World, Hadith 60]

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Amr:

The Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬said, "Whoever has the following four (characteristics) will
be a pure hypocrite and whoever has one of the following four characteristics will
have one characteristic of hypocrisy unless and until he gives it up.
1. Whenever he is entrusted, he betrays.
2. Whenever he speaks, he tells a lie.
3. Whenever he makes a covenant, he proves treacherous.
4. Whenever he quarrels, he behaves in a very imprudent, evil and insulting
manner." [Sahih al-Bukhari, Book 2: Belief, Hadith 27]

Narrated Abu Hurairah:

that the Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬said: "The sign of a hypocrite is that
whenever he speaks he lies, and whenever he makes a promise he does not fulfill
it, and if he is entrusted he betrays." [Jami` at-Tirmidhi, Book 40, Hadith 26,
Grade: Sahih]

May Allah protect us from hypocrisy. Ameen.
