Section 1.1Executive Summary

Chapter 1 Introduction

1.1 Executive Summary


This Release Note contains information about Control Builder A version 1.2/0, running on
Windows NT and Windows 2000. Control Builder A is the successor of AMPL Control
Configuration. Control Builder A consists of the components Application Builder, Bus
Configuration Builder, and Function Chart Builder.
The option On-line Builder and AMPL PC and DB Element Libraries are available.

1.2 How to Use This Document


It is recommended that you first read through this document before installing Control Builder A.
You find here important information about ways of its usage, its setup types, and requirements
and prerequisites for its installation. See Chapter 3, Installation.
You will find this document (Control Builder A 1.2 Relnotes.pdf) on the AdvaBuild
Engineering Software CD1, in the root directory. The Release Notes of the included Builders
are stored below the AdvaBld directory, in last disk subdirectory of the Builder, for example:
AdvaBld\Fcb\62r0\disk12\Relnotes.pdf. You will find the Release Notes of CBA
Interface on the AdvaBuild Engineering Software CD1, in folder "Release Notes".
The Release Notes of the Builders will also be copied during installation, so that you always
have access to them via
Programs > ABB Industrial IT > Product Suite > Engineer IT > Control Builder A >
Documentation > Function Chart Builder version Release Notes
for example, for Function Chart Builder 6.2/0.
You can also access the Release Notes of a certain Builder if you start it via the Help menu of
the Builder.

1.3 Version Designation


The basic unit Control Builder A 1.2/0 comes along with the following components, options,
and libraries:

Chapter 1Introduction

1.5 Compatibility
Control Builder A 1.2/0 is fully compatible with the previous version of Control Builder A and
AMPL Control Configuration.
For compatibility of the Builders components see the corresponding release notes.
This version of Control Builder A is not compatible with older versions of AdvaBuild for
Windows.

1.6 Restrictions
The Control Builder A and its options are based on Windows NT 4.0 and
Windows 2000.
The following restrictions apply:
• Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000 in US English or German are supported for
working stand alone.
• Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 in US English is supported for working integrated in Advant
Engineering Workplace.
• Microsoft Windows 2000 in US English is supported for working integrated in Industrial
IT.
• Control Builder A uses TCP/IP network protocol when running in a network environment.
• When working in a network environment peer-to-peer connection is not supported.
• Writing of application dump to PCMCIA cards is not supported under Windows 2000
except on Advant Station 140 Engineering Station.
