VIBAR MATHEMATICS IN THE MODERN WORLD

BSN 2-5 ACITIVITY NO. 1

Is there a significant relationship between your chosen course and mathematics? Give example to prove
our answer.

- In my own opinion, yes, there is a significant relationship between my course and mathematics.
Mathematics plays crucial role in nursing because in nursing there is dosage calculation,
medication administration, and interpreting patient data.

Calculation of medication dosage is one of the examples. The nurses are the one who is
responsible for administering medications to patients in precise amounts, and errors in dosage
can have serious consequences. To ensure accurate administration, nurses must calculate
dosages based on factors such as a patient’s weight, the concentration of medication, and the
prescribed dosage.

Another area where mathematics is crucial in nursing is in interpreting and analyzing patient
data. Whether it's monitoring vital signs, interpreting lab results, or calculating fluid intake and
output, nurses use mathematical skills to make clinical decisions. For example, when monitoring
a patient's blood pressure, nurses must understand the numerical values and trends to identify
potential issues and intervene appropriately. Additionally, nurses use mathematical formulas to
calculate a patient's fluid balance, which is essential in managing their overall health and well-
being.

In conclusion, the relationship between nursing and mathematics is clear and significant. Nurses
rely on mathematical skills to deliver safe, effective, and evidence-based care to their patients.
From medication dosages to interpreting patient data and research, mathematics is an integral
part of the nursing profession. It is essential for nurses to have a solid understanding of
mathematical concepts to ensure the accuracy and safety of patient care. Therefore, the
connection between nursing and mathematics is crucial, and it demonstrates the importance of
mathematical proficiency in the nursing profession.
