CULTURAL & LEARNING CENTRE

OVERVIEW:
The Cultural and Learning Centre is a dynamic space where art, heritage, and
learning converge. It houses galleries, performance & learning areas, and
exhibit spaces that relate to the local culture of the city or region. It nurtures
a sense of belonging and learning, becoming a vibrant hub for diverse
expressions, building connections, and celebrating collective identity. It
serves as a platform for local artists and talent, providing them with an arena
to showcase their work, gain exposure, and amalgamate with fellow creators.
By encouraging people to keep learning throughout their lives, this centre
would make their lives better and improve their livelihood in Gurugram. It
would add to the city's unique character, making it more lively and culturally
rich. This centre would help the city to grow in a balanced way.

TENTATIVE SITE:
ST. Thomas Marg, DLF Phase 3, Sector 53, Gurugram, Haryana

Establishing a cultural and learning

centre in Gurugram holds
multifaceted advantages. It would
serve as a center for preserving and
celebrating local culture and heritage,
while simultaneously offering
educational programs to foster skills
and knowledge acquisition. By
engaging the community, the centre
would cultivate social connections
and creative expression, boosting
tourism and the economy. It could
become a shelter for artists and talent,
hosting events, conferences, and interdisciplinary exchanges, elevating the
city's cultural vibrancy. By promoting lifelong learning and providing a space
for various activities, the centre would enhance Gurugram's quality of life,
enriching its identity and fostering holistic development.
RESEARCH TOPIC

“INTEGRATION OF INDOOR AND OUTDOOR SPACES IN

CONTEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE.”

OVERVIEW:

The research focuses on the architectural phenomenon of seamlessly

connecting interior and exterior environments within modern building
design. This integration aims to dissolve traditional boundaries between
indoor and outdoor spaces, promoting a harmonious coexistence
between built structures and the surrounding natural environment. It
further enhances human well-being by connecting users with nature,
providing abundant natural light, and improving ventilation.

AIM:

The research aims to elevate user experience by integrating indoor and

outdoor space in contemporary architecture, exploring its architectural
and experiential implementation.

OBJECTIVES:

• To analyze relevant architectural theories that support the idea of

blurring boundaries between interior and exterior spaces.
• To study various design strategies, architectural elements, and
technological innovations involved in creating seamless
transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces.
• To study the impact of indoor-outdoor integration on user
experiences, well-being, and the overall quality of inhabiting
spaces.
• To identify environmental and climatic considerations that
influence the feasibility of indoor-outdoor connections.
SCOPE:

• The study deals with creating a harmonious coexistence between

built structures and the natural environment, enhancing the
overall aesthetic appeal of architectural designs.
• The seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces that
positively influences occupants' well-being, providing access to
nature, reducing stress, and boosting creativity.
• The scope extends to understanding the impact of biophilic design
principles, analyzing architectural elements, and considering the
implications on human well-being and spatial aesthetics.

LIMITATIONS:

• This design approach might not be universally applicable due to

varying climatic conditions and geographical contexts.
• Seamless transition of nature and built form can enhance the
design of every building but this research will mainly focus on the
public buildings.

RELEVANCE OF THE RESEARCH AREA IN CONJUNCTION

WITH THE SELECTED THESIS TOPIC:

• Studying the seamless connection between indoor and outdoor

spaces will help foster a deeper connection between art, culture,
and nature, creating an impactful design of a cultural & learning
centre.
• The dissertation topic focuses on the connection of indoor spaces
to outdoor environments through natural light, greenery, and fresh
air which will contribute to a healthy and stimulating atmosphere,
promoting relaxation, creativity, and focus that would improve
the well-being of visitors and learners.
• Understanding the integration of indoor and outdoor spaces
would help to enhance the design approach and architectural
appeal of cultural and learning centers, making them visually
captivating landmarks that would inspire curiosity
and exploration.
• The seamless transition between interior and exterior areas
creates versatile spaces that accommodate a range of activities,
strengthening the center's role as a communal space for
shared experiences.
• Biophilic design principles can contribute to a calming
atmosphere, reduced stress levels, and an overall sense of well-
being, benefiting both learners and the broader community.
