ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Completing a task is never a one man's effort. It is obtain the result of invaluable
contribution of numbers of individuals in direct and indirect manner. Sincerity and
devotion being here when after the completion of any project work and report, I find it is
the most difficult part of the entire exercise to record our gratefulness to various persons
on this venture. The words that follow are merely the formal expression of our deep sense
of indebtedness that is better treasure in thoughts than said in word.

It is indeed pleasure and a moment of satisfaction for us to express our sincere

thanks to our project guide, Miss. HARSHALI FATING, Civil Engineering Department,
Govt. College of Engineering Chandrapur. Who have been constant source of inspiration,
guidance and encouragement.

We would like to express many thanks to PROF. RAJESH T. PECHE, head Civil
Engineering Department, Govt. College of Engineering Chandrapur, for providing
valuable suggestions in project work.

Last but not the least we would like to thank our Principal DR. SUDHIR G.
AKOJWAR for his motivation and inspiring encouragement throughout our endeavour.

ABSTRACT

Fresh water is abundantly available almost everywhere, and is being freely used
for all purposes by the concrete industry. In fact, construction practice codes routinely
recommend the use of potable water for mixing and curing. But now, the situation has
changed. Although there is a lot of water on earth, less than 3% is fresh and most of that is
either locked up in fast-melting glaciers and ice caps, or is too deep in the earth to retrieve.
in recent press reports, the Indian government expressed deep concern over a future water
shortage in the country because, due to global warming, the Himalayan glaciers, which are
the primary source of water for Indian rivers, have receded by 30 m (100 ft) during the
past 2 years alone. So it is necessary to save the water.

The aim of this investigation is to study the strength and durability properties of mortar
using water-soluble polymers such as Asian repair polymer [SBR technology], Dr.fixit
[301 Pidicrete URP] and SBR leak proof [water proofing nation] as self-curing agent. The
function of self-curing agent is to reduce the water evaporation from mortar. The use of
self-curing admixtures is very important from the point of view that saving of water is a
necessity everyday (each one cubic meter of concrete requires 3m. cube of water in a
construction, most of which is used for curing). In this study, compressive strength of
mortar containing self-curing agents is investigated and compared with those of
conventionally cured mortar. It is found through this experimental study that mortar cast
with above mentioned polymers as self-curing agent is effective.
