Pre-Conference (Planning Conference) Questions

Teacher Candidate: ____Jasmine Jones ___________________________ School: Alexander Elementary__________ Date:

Questions for preparation and discussion:

1. To which part of your curriculum does this lesson relate?

This lesson relates to the Fountas and Pinnell writing minilessons curriculum.

2. How does this learn fit in the sequence of learning for this class?

This learning fits into the sequence of learning for this class because the students have been learning about writing and books. In the beginning of the
year, we have focused on learning how to hold a pencil, what is a letter, what is a word, and more. Now, we are at the point that the Kindergartners
have learned about fundamentals of book and now they are ready to create their own book.

3. Briefly describe the students in this class, including those with special needs.

The students in this class are good listeners to adults and are eager to learn. Lots of students in this class love to blurt out the answers. Also, this class
is occasionally chatty. This class is well blended for ranges of academics. The special need in the classroom is a child with an early childhood
developmental delay, speech impairments, an ELL student, and a student who has seizures. There are no IEPS for the teachers in this classroom.

4. What are your learning outcomes for this lesson? What do you want the students to know or be able to do?

The learning outcomes for this lesson is that students will be able to identify the front cover of a book by writing on the correct side, students will be
able to write “animals” as the title of their book, students will be able to illustrate an animal of their choosing to complete the cover of their book,
and, students will be able to distinguish themselves as the author of the story by writing their names at the bottom of the book.
5. How will you engage the students in the learning? What will you do? What will the students do? Will the students work in groups, or
individually, or as a large group? Provide any worksheets or other materials the students will be using.

I will engage the students in learning by getting them excited about books at the carpet. I want the students to guess animals at the carpet and share
their favorite animal so that they will be excited to write about it. The students will work individually at their desks.

6. How will you differentiate instruction for either individual students or groups of students in the class?

I will differentiate instruction by writing words in a highlighter to help with students who struggle to write. Also, I will recommend simple animals to
right about such as “cat, dog, frog,” to help the writing and the illustration be easier.

7. How and when will you know whether the students have learned what you intend?

I will know whether the students learn what I intended by the end of the lesson by observing what they have completed on their books.

8. What would you like me to observe specifically during the lesson?

Since this is my first lesson, I am not quite sure for myself, but I want you to observe the classroom environment and the students.
