Introduction In this module you will find resources to help educate youth about climate change, inspire them
to take action and see how young volunteers deal with climate change.

This module is designed for National Societies who want to educate and inspire youth to take
action. The products are tailored to youth: a PowerPoint presentation addresses much of the
same topics as in Module 1a (on science and impacts) but explains them more simply and
contains examples of action appropriate for young people. The games and exercises included
in this module are ideal for young people as they are fun and participatory.

Some documents are linked to the International Federation’s Youth on the move initiative,
which “is committed to empowering youth to become leaders by providing them with the tools,
training and opportunities needed to become strong advocates for the humanitarian work of the
1
Red Cross and Red Crescent.”

Objective This module aims to:

1. Share materials to assist in educating young people about climate change

2. Inspire the young to take action on climate change.

Products 1. PowerPoint presentations with explanatory notes

The first part of this PowerPoint presentation is designed to teach youth about the basics of
climate change. The second will inspire young volunteers to take action by sharing practical
examples from their peers around the world.

2. Exercises and games

In these sections you will find exercises and a variety of games created by other National
Societies that you can use as a source of inspiration. Most examples facilitate learning in
fun and interactive ways. We encourage you to have a look at the creative and inspiring
campaigns already done by youth within the Red Cross Red Crescent, and adjust them to
your needs.

3. Experience from other Red Cross Red Crescent National Societies
In this module you will find case studies in which young volunteers demonstrate their way of
dealing with climate change, and their efforts to raise awareness. They can be used as an
inspiration for others.

4. Recommended films and videos

In this section videos are presented of young volunteers who are taking action on climate
change, learning about climate change, and trying to deal with climate change in everyday
life. The videos are mostly by young people for young people.

5. Frequently asked questions

These explain some issues about climate change and how the Red Cross Red Crescent
can deal with it as a humanitarian issue.

6. Relevant reading

This folder contains the ‘Young humanitarian’s guide to making a move on the impacts of
climate change’, produced for a global meeting of Red Cross Red Crescent youth
representatives. Many National Societies have found that young people want to get
involved in the issue and have asked for materials. This short guide presents examples
from around the world. In ‘Relevant reading’ there is also the UN report, Youth and Climate
Change, and Climate Change: Take Action Now, produced by UNICEF and the Alliance of
Youth CEOs.
