FIELD STUDY 1: LEARNING EPISODE 8

CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH THE

SCHOOL CURRICULUM

TARGET YOUR INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of this Episode, I must be able to;

 Identify the different curricula that prevail in the school setting;

 Describe how the teacher manages the school curriculum by planning, implementing
lessons through different strategies and assessment of learning outcomes; and
 Analyze if the teacher aligns the objectives to subject matter, to teaching strategies
and assessment.

ANALYZE

Which of the seven types of curriculums in the school setting is easy to fond? Why?

 Since other academics and professional organizations have suggested the recommend
curriculum, it is simple to find.

Which is difficult to observe? Why?

 The accidental curriculum, which is the hidden curriculum, is the hardest to spot. Unplanned
learning outcomes are any learning objectives that are not specifically specified in the class plan.

Are these all found in the school setting? How do curricula relate to one another?

 Yes, because there are connections between the curriculum and because both programs are
mutually beneficial.

Draw a diagram to show the relationship of one curriculum to another.

REFLECT

Make a reflection on the diagram that you have drawn.

 The seven curricula benefit from one another and are intrinsically related. As an illustration, the
curriculum is the foundation of education and what sets excellent education apart. starting with
the most basic concepts and working up to the most complex ones.

OBSERVE
This activity requires a full lesson observation from Motivation to Assessment.
Procedure:

1. Secure permit to observe one complete lesson in a particular subject, in a particular

grade/year level.
2. Keep a close watch on a different component of the miniscule curriculum: the lesson
3. Follow the three major components of a curriculum (Planning, Implementing, and
Evaluating/Assessing.) Observe and record your observation.

Observe and Record Observation of the following aspects.

Major Curriculum Key guide for observation (carefully look for the indicators/behaviour of the
Components teacher along the key points. Write your observation and description in your
notebook.)
A. Planning Borrow the teacher`s lesson plan for the day. What major parts do you see?
Request a copy for your use.
Answer the following questions:
a. What are the lesson objectives/learning outcomes?
b. What are included in the subject matter?
c. What procedure or method will the teacher use to
implement the plan?
d. Will the teacher assess or evaluate the lesson? How will this
be done?
B. Implementing Now it’s time to observe how the teacher implemented the prepared lesson
plan. Observe closely the procedure.
a. How did the teacher begin the lesson?
b. What procedures or steps were followed?
c. How did the teacher engage the learners?
d. Was a teacher a guide at the side?
e. Were the learners on task? / Or were they participating in
the class activity?
f. Was the lesson finished within the class period?
C. Evaluating/Assessing Did learning occur in the lesson taught? Here you make observations to find
evidence of learning.
a. Were the objectives as learned outcomes achieved?
b. How did the teacher assess/evaluate it?
c. What evidence was shown? Get pieces of evidence.

ANALYZE

Write a paragraph based on the data you gathered using these key questions.

1. How does the teacher whom you observed compare to the ideal characteristics or
competencies of global quality teachers?
FIELD STUDY 1: LEARNING EPISODE 8
CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH THE
SCHOOL CURRICULUM
 She encourages and supports kids' learning so that they can all succeed in the
interconnected world of today. She works with her students to create fresh learning
opportunities. She employs a variety of techniques to support program improvements and
student learning.

2. Was the lesson implemented as planned? Describe.

 Due to the teacher's effective class delivery and management of the students' active
participation in a discussion. Although a class without a lesson can never be structured,
everything seems to be quite well organized from what I can tell.

3. Can you describe the disposition of the teacher after the lesson was taught? Happy and
anger? Satisfied and contented? Disappointed and exhausted?
 I can tell that the instructor is happy and satisfied with the lesson because she delivered it
really successfully, and because the students were satisfied with the discussion there were
no further questions raised at the end of the lesson.

4. Can you describe the majority of students` reactions after the lesson was taught?
Confused? Happy and eager? Contented? No reactions at all.
 The majority of students are content and happy because their teacher shows a great level
of tolerance and understanding and acknowledges all of their responses, even if they don't
always make sense in connection to the question. This stimulates kids and increases their
self-confidence further.
REFLECT
Based on your observation and tasks in Activity 2, how will you prepare your lesson plan?
Make a short paragraph on the topic.
 Regardless of the elements that make up a lesson plan, each one should build on the one before
it and smoothly transition into the next. In addition to the essential elements of a curriculum,
there are extra standards to adhere to. Every one of them includes some essential details, such
as the kind and academic level of the pupils, their prior knowledge, which will help us maintain
the flow, and the teaching strategies you can use in your lesson plan. The next step is for
students to create specific learning activities, create learning objectives, plan the class, and
evaluate their progress.

ACTIVITY 8.3 Constructive Alignments of the Components of a Lesson Plan.

ANALYZE

Answer the following questions based on the diagram.

1. Are the three components constructively aligned? Explain.

FIELD STUDY 1: LEARNING EPISODE 8
CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH THE
SCHOOL CURRICULUM
 Yes, the three elements are constructively linked together, starting with the learning
objectives and finishing with the methods to employ in order to successfully achieve the
outcomes and the kind of assessment to be performed in order to gauge the student's level
of learning.

2. Will the outcomes be achieved with the teaching methods used? Why?
 The teacher's instructional strategies led to the desired results. Despite the fact that it was
modular, the teacher then presented an example of each stage. Basically, we believe that
this teaching strategy has produced the desired results.

3. What component would tell if the outcomes have been achieved?

 When students get passing or above-average grades and do well on the activity set, the
evaluation and assessment section will specify whether or not the outcomes have been met.

REFLECT

What lessons have you learned in developing or writing a lesson plan?

 I've discovered that in order to achieve your objectives when creating a lesson plan, you
must align the three elements. To see where your students are at the time of learning, you
must decide in advance what knowledge, abilities, and moral principles you want them to
acquire. You must then choose the best strategy for achieving the desired goal.

What value will it give to the teacher if the three components are aligned?

 The teacher will understand the value of success if all three elements are in place. success in
quickly delivering lectures and successfully instructing students.
