not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.

1. What do Sacraments mean


Sacraments are divine mysteries. They are channels of grace. St. Augustine said Sacraments are

‘visible means of invisible grace’. Sacrament is not a hidden mystery, it is a revealing mystery. It is an

outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace given to us. This is why Paul describes Gods

plan of Salvation as a mystery of His will made known to us through Jesus Christ.

iii. Meaningful formation of Words - Celebrants use particular words while performing the

sacrament. These words proclaim faith and reflect the meaning of the Sacrament.

Eg: in the sacrament of Confirmation, the celebrant recites special prayer for the anointing of
the Holy Spirit.

iv. Intention – All sacraments have specific aims. The celebrants and the participants should have

the same intentions and interest.

v. Biblical basis – All Sacraments are based on the Word of God. Gods promises and

commandments are the foundation of sacraments.
