PHILLY CHEESE STEAK ROLL

The best Sushi is composed of fresh ingredients.

To create this art, one must have the skills, experience and
heart. Everybody knows what a sushi is; it gives an insight
of what is like being in Japan, and depicts their rich
culture. From the ravishing seafoods garnished with vegies
and Kabayaki sauce, the authenticity of this food is from
the shadows of the taste, slicing and appearance. From
the cook, the master, the artist. Food is a memory from
the minds of its creator. Every taste represents a meaning,
it could be an uproar of bittersweet memories with
someone, just like mine. Some would say my Sushi was
delicious, but I would reply with a dull and a disagreeing
response. “Non-sense”, since I tasted it several times and
it was the same, Bittersweet. In in every roll of sushi I fed
unto my mouth; I would remember my dog whose name
was Yang. He has a small body for a dog, and with very
short legs.

His coat was slightly thicker among other

average dogs with a shade of brown (since his mother
is a Japanese spitz), and his eyes were green as a
foreigner’s eyes. Yang’s smartness is not limited to
unique tricks and stunts, but with his attitude and
ability to sense sadness, I could say Yang is a highly
intelligent dog. When I’m having a rough day, Yang
would either jump unto me upon opening the gates,
or hide under my limbs whenever I sat in our lonely
couch. Thus, the most special feature of yang is his
nose. It’s light brown and pointed, it resembles his
father, a dachshund. Yang is a very active dog, he
would always lick my foot, bark unto the people
outside and eat a lot.
Until one night, it was Sunday night of February, I noticed
him lying in the corner. Weak and his eyes were weary
and his jaw was dropped to the floor. However, I didn’t
take it seriously, and I thought maybe he is just hungry or
something. The next day, Yang started vomiting
specifically nothing. It was just like all water, until I notice
a drip of crimson stain on the floor. I rushed to my mom,
and ask her to bring Yang to the Veterinary Clinic. She
agreed, I pick Yang upon the floor and we hopped to the
car. My brother opened the gates and we went
immediately to the nearest clinic. That time, it felt like my
watch was ticking so fast until I realized we had arrived
already. I opened our car’s door, and swiftly rushed Yang
towards the clinic.

The specialist accommodated us immediately, and they

asked us a few questions and examined Yang. Several
minutes later, Yang was diagnosed with CPV or Canine
Parvovirus Infection. This virus is highly contagious that
affects dogs and manifested in two different forms. In
Yang’s case, he attained the intestinal form which is
characterized by vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss and lack
of appetite. He also had Giardiasis, an infection in his
small intestine and it is caused by a microscopic parasite
called Giardia. Dogs can get Giardiasis by eating
contaminated food or drinking contaminated water. I was
shocked to this result, I wanted to cry but the event still
would not sink in to my understanding. I look upon my
wrist, it was 7:45 AM already and I was late for my first
class. I left Yang and entrusted him to my mom and faced
school. After my class, I immediately went to the clinic. It
was a hot afternoon, until a sizzling news killed my smile.
Upon opening the door, I saw my mother crying. I moved
closer and ask her “What happened mom?”, I mumbled.
My mother replied with a shaky voice “Yang has

left us already”. After a few minutes I realized that he is

dead. The only organism who knows my secret had now

left the world of the living. When I got home, I knew that I

should cry later for I have loads of work to do. This sushi,

doesn’t literally tasted bittersweet. Instead it was

delicious, it doesn’t have any subtle taste, it was mildly

salty (due to the roe’s sauce), mildly sweet and mildly sour

but the texture was a whole new thing. It was firm yet

fluffy when entered the mouth. It almost tasted and felt

like heaven, that’s why for me it was bittersweet. Bitter,

since my dog died while I was making the sushi, but sweet

when I started tasting it and it brought me to heaven.

Thus realizing that Yang is in a better possession now.
