IMPORTANT QUESTION AND ANSWER FOR THE REVISION CLASS, SUBJECT –

CHEMISTRY, DATE-30-11-2023, CLASS –STD VII, PRACTICE QUESTION,3 PAGE-74

1 The following is a paragraph about the metals in Group 1 of the

Periodic table. It contains ten mistakes. Write it out, correcting the
mistakes.

The first three Group 1(alkaline earth) metals and lithium, sodium, and
rubidium. They all have 3 electrons in their outer shells and decrease in
size down the group. Unusually for metals, they have both high melting
points and high densities, so that they float on water. They react
vigorously with water giving off oxygen gas and forming an acid. The
Group 1 metals are very reactive because their atoms easily gain one
electron to become negative ions.

Correction: Alkaline earth (Alkali) , Rubidium(Potassium), 3 electrons(1)

Decrease(Increase), high melting point(Low melting point), High

densities(Low densities), Oxygen(Hydrogen), Acid(Alkali), Gain(Lose)

Negative(Positive)
