The Artistic Director and Board of the Briery Gap Cultural Centre CLG is seeking applications
from ambitious and experienced candidates with a proven track record, and the requisite skills
for the role of Technical Manager for its newly redeveloped state of the art theatre, cinema, and
live music venue in Macroom, Co. Cork.
The Technical Manager will be a core member of the Briery Gap leadership team. Reporting
directly to the Artistic Director, they will work closely with the Artistic Director and the Operations
and Finance Manager to oversee the technical operations of the newly redeveloped venue,
including both visiting artists and productions, and in-house projects. They will also be
responsible for health and safety and statutory compliance with regard to Briery Gap’s technical
operations as a venue for both cinema and live performance. This individual will collaborate
closely with artists, performers, and production teams to support the creation of exceptional and
immersive experiences for our patrons.
As Briery Gap is in a rebuilding phase, with a proposed opening date of May 2024, this role may
evolve as further needs of the company are identified. The ideal candidate for this role will be
highly self-motivated, with a love of creative collaboration, and an enthusiasm for joining a new
team as they set about building a brand new arts centre in the heart of County Cork. For the
right candidate this is an exciting and exceptional opportunity to be at the forefront of shaping
the future of the artistic and cultural activity in the Lee Valley area, engaging with voluntary and
professional arts organisations in County Cork and further afield, to build the centre's artistic
and cultural programme, networks and resources.
Job Functions
Technical Production:
● Collaborate with the Artistic Director and programming team to understand the technical
requirements of each event or performance, attending production meetings when
required.
● Responsible for the planning, set-up, and execution of technical elements, including
lighting, sound, stage design, and multimedia components.
● Facilitate technical rehearsals for visiting companies, ensuring all equipment and
systems are functioning correctly.
● Troubleshoot technical issues during events, rehearsals and performances.
● Liaising with visiting companies, ensuring the highest level of professionalism and
technical support is provided to artists, technicians and collaborators, and fostering a
welcoming and engaging atmosphere.
Equipment and Facility Management:
Team Collaboration:
● Work closely with artists, directors, and production teams to understand their technical
needs and preferences.
● Supervise and manage technical staff and volunteers during events, and ensure
appropriate out-of-hours staffing, and health and safety compliance.
● Foster a collaborative and positive working environment within the technical team.
● Work with the Artistic Director to plan and facilitate the technical aspects develop
community engagement programmes and ambitious strategic cultural projects for the
centre.
● Implement and enforce health and safety protocols for technical and production
activities, including briefing visiting companies on their health and safety, fire, and first-
aid obligations.
● Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
● Liaise with visiting and in-house productions to ensure all relevant risk assessments are
carried out and disseminated appropriately.
● Organise and plan relevant health and safety training for the building’s staff and
volunteers.
● Remain up-to-date on industry best practice, developing safe and efficient systems of
working, and promoting a culture of excellent health and safety practices.
Administrative Duties:
● Ability to consistently deal with tight deadlines, to multitask, and to work and lead calmly,
even when under pressure.
● First-Aid training.
● Full clean driving licence.
● Experience of operating theatre counterweight flying systems.
● Qualifications or Certificates in Health and Safety, Environmental Sustainability
Practices, or organisational improvement systems such as Lean or Six Sigma.
● An enthusiasm for creative problem solving.
● An understanding of socially engaged arts practices.
● Attention to detail.
● A passion for the arts, and a desire to champion artists from all artforms.
Salary
€35,000 - €40,000 depending on experience.
Contract
3 years, full-time
