A)Diamond has a higher boiling point than graphite because of how

their structures differ from each other. In diamond, all carbon atoms
are all covalently bonded to four other carbon atoms creating a very
strong bond. This results in diamond having no free electrons. This
means that a large amount of thermal energy is needed to break its
bonds and therefore, boil diamond. On the other hand, every carbon
atom in graphite, is only bonded to three others meaning that there
is one free electron for every carbon atom ( because carbon has four
valence electrons), therefore less energy is needed to break the
bonds despite both covalent structures being made from carbon.
B)Graphite is more conductive than diamond, because it has a free
electron for every carbon atom and these free electrons are
delocalised between the layers of graphite. However, diamond does
not have delocalised electrons, so therefore diamond is a bad
conductor of electricity. Electrical conductivity relies on the presence
of delocalised electrons.
