LS-DYNA Theory Manual Material Models

Material Model 103: Anisotropic Viscoplastic

The uniaxial stress-strain curve is given on the following form

σ ( p, p ) = σ 0 + Qr1 (1 − exp(−Cr1 p)) + Qr 2 (1 − exp(−Cr 2 p))

+ Qχ 1 (1 − exp(−Cχ 1 p)) + Qχ 2 (1 − exp(−Cχ 2 p)) (19.103.1)
+ Vk p Vm

For bricks the following yield criteria is used

F (σ 22 − σ 33 )2 + G (σ 33 − σ 11 ) 2 + H (σ 11 − σ 22 ) 2
(19.103.2)
+ 2 Lσ 23
2
+ 2M σ 312 + 2 Nσ 122 = σ (ε p , ε p )

where ε p is the effective plastic strain and ε p is the effective plastic strain rate. For shells the
anisotropic behavior is given by R00 , R45 and R90 . When Vk = 0 the material will behave elasto-
plastically. Default values are given by:

1
F =G= H =
2 (19.103.3a)

3
L=M =N =
2 (19.103.3b)

R00 = R45 = R90 = 1 (19.103.3c)

Strain rate is accounted for using the Cowper-Symonds model which, e.g., model 3,
scales the yield stress with the factor:
1
§ ε ·
p

1+ ¨ ¸
©C ¹ (19.103.4)

To convert these constants set the viscoelastic constants, Vk and Vm , to the following values:

1
§ 1 ·p
Vk = σ ¨ ¸
©C ¹
(19.103.5)
1
Vm =
p

This model properly treats rate effects and should provide superior results to models 3 and 24.
