10. a) Define the term ‘‘Optimal solution’’ as applied in linear programming.

each of its three agencies situated at P, Q and R. the mostly requirements of the agencies are

11. a) A farmer can plant up to 8 hectares of land with wheat and rice. He can earn a profit of
Tzs 50,000 for every hectare of wheat and a profit of Tzs 30,000 for every hectare of rice. His use
of the necessary pesticide is limited by agricultural formulas to 10 gallons for his entire 8
hectares. Wheat requires 2 gallons of pesticide for every hectare planted and rice requires just 1
gallon per hectare. Formulate the inequalities and objective function of the problem.
b) Two poultry keepers , Mzenji and Mangi can collect a maximum of 80 trays of eggs and 65
trays of eggs respectively per month. Suppose three hotels TX, LM and VIP can place the
monthly orders of 40, 55 and 50 trays of eggs respectively, given that the transportation costs
from the poultry farms to the hotels are shown in the table below.

12. There is a factory located at each of the two places P and Q. From these locations, a certain
commodity is delivered to each of the three depots situated at A, B and C that requires 5, 5and 4
units respectively. While the production capacity of the factories at P and Q are, respectively, 8
and 6 units. The cost transportation per unit is given below.

(b) A transport Company has two types of trucks, Type A and Type B. Type A has a refrigerated
capacity of 20𝑚3 and a non-refrigerated capacity of 40𝑚3 while Type B has the same overall
volume with equal sections for refrigerated and non-refrigerated stock. A grocer needs to hire
trucks for the transport of 3000𝑚3 of refrigerated stock and 4000𝑚3 of non-refrigerated stock.
The cost per kilometer of a type A is TSH 30/= and TSH 40/= for type B, how many trucks of each
type should the grocer rent to achieve the minimum total cost.

(c) Cooperative society has two depots. At depot A there is 200 tons of rice stored and at depot B
there are 300 tons. The rice has to be sent at three marketing Centers A, B, and C . The demand at
Centre A is 150 tons, at Centre B is 150 tons and Centre C is 200 tons. How many rice should be
sent from each depot to each of the Marketing Centres, if the transport cost per ton from a depot to
a Centre is as given below
