Crochet Beanie Hat Pattern- a Gorgeous Textured Hat

This simple beanie hat crochet pattern is a delightful women’s crochet beanie
free pattern with amazing texture. This DK weight crochet hat pattern can also
be made in sizes Toddler, Child and Adult. This simple hat crochet pattern free
tutorial comes with pictures and step by step instructions making it a crochet
project even beginners can try!
The hat is worked bottom up starting from the ribbing, and decreases are
added at the top to shape the hat. The hat is then cinched shut and a fur pom
pom is added to add a final finishing touch.The stitch pattern has oodles of
texture and looks complicated. Can you believe it is a 1-row repeat? Not

Materials
1. DK weight yarn. Premier Basix DK yarn in Light Mauve, Mocha and Linen were
used for the sample crochet beanie hats.
2. A G (4mm) hook.
3. Tapestry needle to weave in the ends.
4. Four stitch markers. You can also use safety pins or contrasting color yarn
scraps.
5. A button to attach the fur pom pom and make it detachable

Note: The stitch pattern is elastic and will stretch to fit.
Toddler– Fits 19-inch head and is 7-1/2 inches tall and 16-3/4″ in circumference
Child– Fits 21-inch head and is 8 inches tall and 18-1/4″ in circumference
Adult Small/Medium (S/M)– Fits 22-inch head and is 8-1/2 inches tall and 19″ in
circumference
Adult Large (L)– Fits 23-inch head and is 9 inches tall and 19-3/4″ in
circumference

Toddler: 1 skein of Premier Basix DK or 160 yards if you are using a yarn of
similar gauge
Child: 1 skein of Premier Basix DK or 190 yards if you are using a yarn of similar
gauge
Adult S/M: 1 skein of Premier Basix DK or 210 yards if you are using a yarn of
similar gauge
Adult L: 1 skein of Premier Basix DK or 230 yards if you are using a yarn of
similar gauge
Stitch Abbreviations
The pattern is written in US terms.
ch: chain
sl st: slip stitch
sc: single crochet
dc: double crochet
YO: yarn over
RS: right side of your crochet hat
WS: wrong side of your crochet hat
Stitch Explanations
1. Sc in the Back Loops Only(BLO): Instead of inserting your hook under both
the loops of your stitch, you will insert it only under the back loop and leave the
front loop free.
2. fpsc (front post single crochet): Insert your hook from front to back through
the gap before the st, then bring it back out through the gap after the st, pull
up a loop, YO, and pull through both the loops on your hook to complete your
fpsc.
3. fpdc (front post double crochet): YO, Insert your hook from front to back
through the gap before the st, then bring it back out through the gap after the
st, pull up a loop, YO, and pull through 2 loops, YO again and pull through the
remaining 2 loops on your hook to complete your fpdc.

4. V-st: (dc, ch 1, dc) all worked into the same ch-1 space.
5. fpdc2tog: It is a decrease worked by joining two fpdc sts together. It is
worked as follows:

(yo, insert your hook from front to back to front around the post of the next
stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops on your hook) twice, yo, pull
through the remaining three loops on your hook.
6. fphdc (front post half double crochet): YO, Insert your hook from front to
back through the gap before the st, then bring it back out through the gap
after the st, pull up a loop, YO, and pull through all 3 the loops on your hook to
complete your fphdc.
7. fhdc2tog: It is a decrease worked by joining two fphdc sts together. It is
worked as follows:
(YO, insert your hook from front to back to front around the post of the next
stitch, and pull up a loop) twice, YO, and pull through all 5 loops on your hook.
8. sc2tog: Pull up a loop in each of the 2 spaces specified, YO, and pull through
all the 3 loops on your hook to complete a sc2tog.

Hat Crochet Pattern

Pattern Notes
1. The hat is worked bottom up starting with the ribbing.
2. Sizes Toddler and Child are grouped together, and sizes Adult S/M and Adult
Large are grouped together.

Note: Stitch counts are given in the order Toddler (Child).

Ribbing
Ch 11 (11)
Row 1: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across to end, turn.——–10 (10) sc
Row 2: Ch 1 (does not count as a st), 1 sc in BLO of the first st, 1 sc in the BLO
of next 8 sts, 1 sc in the last st (going under both the loops like a regular sc),
turn.——10 (10) sc
Repeat Row 2 until your ribbing is 15-1/2 (17) inches without stretching. Do not
fasten off.

Joining the Ends of the Ribbing

Bring the beginning of your ribbing near the last row where your hook and the
working yarn are. Sl st both ends together going under both loops of the
stitches on the last row and the free loops on the foundation chain side.

Turn your ribbing inside out to hide the seam. Pass your yarn skein through the
ribbing to bring it to the other side if needed. Any tiny gap in the ribbing seam
can be closed when weaving in the beginning tail later.

Body
Note: To distribute sc sts evenly in the next round, you can use 4 markers to
divide the ribbing into 4 quarters and then distribute 24, 24, 24, and 23 sts in
each quarter for size Toddler and 26, 26, 26, and 27 sts in each quarter for
size Child to get a total of 95 (105) sts.
Base Sc Round: Distribute 95 (105) sc sts around the ribbing, sl st to the first
sc, do not turn. ——-95 (105) sc
Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as a dc), 1 dc in same st, ch 1, 2 dc in next st *(sk next 3
sts, 2dc in next st, ch 1, 2 dc in next st), repeat from * to last 3 sts, sk last 3
sts, sl st to top of beginning ch-3, turn. –——-19 (21) repeats
Round 2: Sl st to next dc, fpsc in next dc, ch 2 (this fpsc+ch 2 counts as our
first fpdc), V-st in next ch-1 space, fpdc in next dc, *(sk next 2 dc sts, fpdc in
next dc, V-st in next ch-1 space, fpdc in next dc), repeat from * until you have 2
dc sts left, sk last 2 dc, sl st to top of beginning ch-2, turn. ——–19 (21) repeats
Repeat the above round until your hat is approximately 7 (7-1/2)inches tall from
the base of the ribbing and you have completed 15 (16) dc rows in total. You
must remember to turn at the end of every round until you start the crown
below.

Crown

Pattern Note
All the 3 decrease rounds for shaping the crown are worked on the Right side
(RS) of the hat. So the first Decrease Round will start differently based on
which side of the hat you ended your previous row on.
Decrease Round 1 (If your last repeat of Round 2 ended on RS of the hat): Do
not turn and continue to work on the RS of the hat, fpsc in next dc, ch 2 (this
fpsc and ch 2 counts as our first fpdc), place a marker in the top of ch-2, sk the

Decrease Round 3: *(1 sc in next st, sc2tog across next 2 sts), repeat from * to

1/2-yard tail for cinching the hat. ——- 14 (15) sts

Finishing
1. Turn the beanie inside out. Thread the tail at the top through the tapestry
needle, go in and out through every alternate st at the top of the crochet
beanie hat, pull, and cinch the hat shut. Make a couple of knots and securely
weave in the remaining tail.
2. Weave in the beginning tail along the inside of the ribbing. While doing this,
remember to close any gap in the ribbing.
3. Sew a button inside the hat for anchoring your pom pom if you want to make
it detachable. Now turn the hat right side and use a bigger hook to pull the
elastic loop on the pom pom over the button inside. You can twist and go over
the button one more time if your pom pom dangles. You can also sew the pom
pom directly onto the hat using a needle and thread. Enjoy!

Repeat Row 2 until your ribbing is 18 (18-1/2) inches without stretching. Do not
fasten off.
