Installing Prometheus
Installing Prometheus
This guide shows how to install Prometheus on a Linux machine, in this approach we will be
using the official binaries from the Prometheus download's page and enabling prometheus as
a Service using systemd .
Installation and Configuration
First, we'll need to create user, group and directories for prometheus:
sudo useradd -M -r -s /bin/false prometheus
sudo mkdir /etc/prometheus /var/lib/prometheus
Move the files from the downloaded archive to the appropriate locations and set
ownership:
sudo cp prometheus-2.16.0.linux-amd64/{prometheus,promtool} /usr/
local/bin/
sudo cp -r prometheus-2.16.0.linux-amd64/
{consoles,console_libraries} /etc/prometheus/
After following these steps, you should have a Prometheus instance up and running on port
9090.
