CIE Level 1 – Getting Started with Entrepreneurship

Special Topic Course (2 Credits)

Course Objective

This course aims to provide students with an understanding of the nature of


enterprise and entrepreneurship and introduces the role of the entrepreneur,
innovation and technology in the entrepreneurial process.

This course is targeted towards the development of growth business that are
increasingly led by innovation in technology. The elements covered in this course also
serve as a foundation for ‘intrapreneurial’ journey that some (or many) students
might decide to undertake.

Course Description

Entrepreneurship is as much a mindset as it is about action. It involves "building


something from nothing" and successful entrepreneurs know how to manage and
mitigate uncertainty and risk. As this is an introductory course, this will cover breadth
giving an expansive view of the cycle of taking an idea to a product/solution and along
the way develop discipline, knowledge, critical thinking and problem solving,
teamwork & communication skills, ethical competency, and emotional intelligence.

Course is a mix of interactive lectures, discussion and one project. Course instructor
will provide pointers to resources (web, articles, videos that are freely available) and
encourage students to delve deeper into the entrepreneurial landscape, current
scenarios and develop their awareness of the startup local and global environment.

Course Learning Outcomes

1. Discuss the attitudes, values, characteristics, behavior, and processes


associated with possessing an entrepreneurial mindset and engaging in
successful appropriate entrepreneurial behavior.
2. Discuss entrepreneurship and innovation from both a theoretical and practical
perspective, and the role of the entrepreneur in the new enterprise creation
process.
3. Describe the ways in which entrepreneurs perceive opportunity, manage risk,
organize resources and add value.
4. Develop a plan for implementing entrepreneurial activities in a globalized and
competitive environment.
5. Engage in a continuing learning process through the interaction with peers in
related topics, as individuals and as team members.

Assessment:
• ISA: Weightage 20 %; (CBT)
• Assignments & Mini Project: Weightage 30 %
• Final Project: Weightage 50 %

Grading:
S – Grade: 90 – 100 A – Grade: 80 – 89 B – Grade: 70.- 79
C – Grade: 60 – 69 D – Grade: 50 – 59 E – Grade: 40 – 49
F – Grade: 39 and below
