Seasonal Influenza vaccination Protocol for all eligible group

• Healthy individuals aged 6 months and above


• Hemodynamically stable
Eligibility Criteria Includes • Stable Chronic diseases with NO acute symptoms
(e.g. DM, Asthma, Renal disease, liver disease, and Cardiac disease)

Require 2 doses, at least 4 weeks apart:


• Children 6 months through 8 years of age who have never received seasonal influenza
vaccine or for whom vaccination history is unknown.
• Children 6 months through 8 years of age who have not previously received at least 2 doses
(doses not necessarily to be received in the same season or subsequent season) of
seasonal influenza vaccine before July 1,2023.

Require one dose:


• Individuals 9 years old and above.
• Children 6 months through 8 years of age who have received at least 2 doses (doses not

Nurse led clinic
Edibility criteria:
1. Healthy individuals
2. All Children 5 years of age and above
3. Children below 5 years who had received one dose of influenza vaccine previously
3. Pregnant women
4. Health care workers
5. Individuals with stable chronic diseases
6. Elderly (≥ 65 years of age) citizen and residents

Pre-vaccination assessment:

Nurse • Review eligibility criteria for vaccination and selection of appropriate category (Refer to
eligibility criteria)
Administering:

The vaccine will be administered into the deltoid muscle of upper arm, 0.5 ml per dose.
Observation:
• Nurse to monitor the client for 10 minutes (30 minutes for those with history ofallergy)
• Fill Post Vaccination Adverse Reaction form for any case (if applicable)
• Appointment for 2nd dose if applicable
Physician led clinic
Eligible criteria:
1. Children under 5 years of age who didn’t receive flu vaccine previously
2. Unstable chronic conditions
3. Any clinical uncertainty from the nursing staff

• Perform physical examination based on clinical indications
• Order the vaccine
Pharmacy For vaccine order verification
Nurse Administering:

• Nurse to monitor the client for 10 minutes (30 minutes for those with history of allergy)
• Fill Post Vaccination Adverse Reaction for any case (if applicable)

Appendix

• Children below 5 years of age (especially those below 2years)


• Pregnant women
• Health care workers
High risk population
• Adults 65 years of age and above
• Individuals with co-morbidities (e.g. Chronic pulmonary, cardiovascular, renal, hepatic,
neurologic/neuromuscular, hematologic or metabolic disorder and patients with immunosuppression)

• Babies below 6 months.


• People with severe allergic reaction to any component of the vaccine or to a previous dose of the vaccine.
Contraindication to Influenza • People who had Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS) less than 6 weeks after a previous dose of influenza vaccine.

• People with determination
• People with chronic disease

Payment required a fee of 50 dirhams for residents not mentioned in the above exempted category
For adverse events Nurse should inform the clients for the expected adverse events (local/ minor) and any other
adverse events to visit nearest healthcare facility or contact no.: 8008877

REMARKS:
Vaccine given through campaigns (outside health facilities):

• Clerk and nurses should be available for all external campaigns.


• Physician should be assigned to the campaign whether physically or on call in case of emergency or further inquiries (please refer to telephonic
verbal order policy USO/Clin/008)
• All registration should be through Wareed system.
• Eligibility criteria & contraindication should be checked by the available health care provider (nurse)
• Temperature shall be checked for all individuals by nursing staff.
• Post vaccine administration, advise the individual /care giver to stay in the same location of the campaign for at least 10 min, observe for any
adverse reaction and report it immediately if occurred.
• Ensure to follow standard practice of vaccine handling, storage and transportation of the vaccine (cold chain maintenance)
• Ensure to follow the general standard of infection control.
• The team (health care providers) should be trained on emergency cases and emergency kit should be available with the team all the time
• Data should be collected about each campaign.

Egg Allergy:

• Persons with a history of egg allergy who have experienced only hives after exposure to egg should receive flu vaccine. Any licensed and
recommended flu vaccine that is otherwise appropriate for the recipient’s age and health status may be used.
• Persons who report having had reactions to egg involving symptoms other than hives, such as angioedema, respiratory distress,
lightheadedness, or recurrent emesis; or who required epinephrine or another emergency medical intervention, may similarly receive any
licensed and recommended flu vaccine that is otherwise appropriate for the recipient’s age and health status. The selected vaccine should
be administered in an inpatient or outpatient medical setting (including, but not necessarily limited to hospitals, clinics, health departments,
and physician offices). Vaccine administration should be supervised by a health care provider who is able to recognize and manage severe
allergic conditions.
• A previous severe allergic reaction to flu vaccine, regardless of the component suspected of being responsible for the reaction, is a
contraindication to future receipt of the vaccine
